A source says the Mavericks hope to deal newly acquired Jerry Stackhouse and Christian Laettner along with Antoine Walker, Josh Howard and the No. 5 pick for Shaquille O'Neal. The Lakers want Dirk Nowitzki, a player Dallas would hate to lose.

No way the Lakers take on Stackhouse. Laettner maybe, but that is a crap trade for the Lakers.

The Lakers, assuming that Nowitzki is untouchable, should get Nash, Walker, Laettner, Daniels or Howard, and the #5 pick. If the Lakers would have had Laettner for the series against Detroit, they would have fared much better. I have always liked his game with the Wiz because he is a solid contributor off the bench as a backup PF, and he would have been better than Medvedenko (with Malone out).

The Lakers would look more like this:

Stackhouse has proven over and over he is not a leader, so going to the lakers may help his career since that is clearly Kobe's team
