On Espn Insider they claim that if Raffy plays in 140 games this year that we are obliged to pay him next season's contract, as it is their is a vesting option in his contract. If this is true, we need to either dump him or try to trade him, hes not worth what we are paying him right now and he is only gonna get worse.

I know the O's have an 'option' year for him next year. He's only making like 4 million so it's not like were spending big bucks on his contract. I'd have no problem with him returning next season, unless were signing a new first baseman or moving Gibbons over.

I thought it was a club option for Raffy?

Supposedly the team will have enough money to pursue an outfielder and a couple of top notch pitchers (which should be their goal) with or without Raffys contract on the books.
The again why do I care? DC will soon have their own team I can root for. Got no love Angelos anymore. Now if they just traded Tejada to the new DC team, I'd be thrilled to death. *sigh* Pipe Dreams.

Raffy has been one of the best and most consistent hitters in the game. Although he's struggled this year, he has earned another year, and for the O's to drop him woild be a shame.

The O's do not need Raffy, their are many FA 1b available who can outhit him. Frank Thomas comes to my mind, imagine what a healthy Thomas could do in Oriole Park-40+ hrs. We should of just gotten Derek Lee last year, as the 2 prospects we'd eventually get are either gone or doing very badly(Levinski is walking more then 7 batters per 9 ip). Even Gibbons would do just as good a job at 1b as Raffy is doing.
