CIA, FBI AUTHENTICATE NEW QAEDA TERROR TAPE; ABCNEWS EXECUTIVES CONSIDER POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF AIRING

**Exclusive**

The CIA and FBI late Wednesday authenticated a disturbing new al Qaeda videotape which warns the next terror attack will dwarf 9/11.

"The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead, a man claims on the video.

Further claims on the video: America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda.

ABCNEWS obtained the tape from a source in Waziristan, Pakistan over the weekend. The network has withheld airing it, initially citing concerns over its authenticity.

One senior federal official alleged ABCNEWS is now holding back from broadcasting any portion of the video out of fear it will be seen as a political move by the network during election week.

One ABC source, who demanded anonymity, said Thursday morning, the network was struggling to find a correct journalistic "balance."

"This is not something you just throw out there while people are voting," the ABC source explained.

A second ABC source told DRUDGE Thursday morning: "ABCNEWS has shared this tape with both the CIA and the FBI as part of our reporting process. ABC News is committed to accurate, credible and complete journalism and is applying the same scrutiny to this tape that we apply to all raw information. ABCNEWS continues to report this story aggressively."

MORE

The terrorist's face is concealed by a headdress, and he speaks in an American accent, making it difficult to identify the individual.

The tape appears to be from al-Qaeda's media liaison organization. It has a banner crediting the Sahab Production Committee. The speaker refers to Bin Ladin and Zawahiri as "our leaders" and praises the 11 September attacks.

Intelligence officials believe:

Videotape message likely produced in late summer '04 due to references to current events such as the 9/11 Commission.

Individual is college educated, either American born or raised in the U.S.

The U.S. is actively seeking to identify the individual. Adam Gadhan - aka Adam Pearlman of Southern California - remains the chief candidate but another still unknown individual may be possible.

Pearlman was highlighted by the FBI in May as an individual most likely to be involved in or have knowledge of the next al Qaeda attacks.

US intelligence officials say the danger is that if this individual is an American citizen, he will be immersed in the culture and customs and have the ability to travel in America freely and unnoticed.

My :2cents: ............

I think that the "political implications" that ABC News is so worried about is that if they did indeed air this, it would help Bush. If they thought this would have helped Kerry in any way, it would have aired already

ABC is full of it. the reason they do not want this tape played before the election is that it would galvinize the electorate against Kerry.

Am I the only one who's a little bothered by this? Is there any possibility that they're planning on bombing voting precincts? Sometimes I wish I worked for intelligence so I could help stop terrorists like these. I wish I lived in North Dakota.:)

You can never know why people hate America, even in America.

They just do. And honestly those that hate us and want to kill us have to be killed first.

Back to the tape. I don't think it should be aired at this time either, things are just so damn tense. But yeah I also agree it would cause more votes for Bush

That wouldn't help, the government is full of morons.

As the great Chris Rock prognosticated, we shouldn't just fear Al Qaeda, we should also fear Al-Cracka.

I really don't see this tape, if it airs, really changing anybody's vote. The folks who think Bush is honestly vighting terror, and winning, are already voting for him, anyway. Most Kerry voters think Bush has bungled the job.

And, there's just too many ways some 'expert' can complete the sentance "This tape, released now, is clearly a sign that the terrorists want people to vote for . . . ".

However, if the tape airs, I do see a smaller turnout, which might help Bush.

We just have to deal with the Canadian's up here. Not terrorists, but they are cheap and tend to smell bad.

We had a barrell of Cyanide go missing. Apparently they use it to kills bees after the honey season is over. It fell off the back of a truck and nobody could find it. Kinda scary.

The pertinent question is why an “objective” news organization is considering the political ramifications of running a hard news story.

I just read on MSNBC that a CIA intelligence official is saying they cannot authenticate the tape.

It has nothing to do with stations fearing 'helping bush'. Bush's electoral base feels that he is the only one strong enough to lead the war on terror. Kerry's electoral base feels he's botched it so bad and created so much international hatred towards the united states that we are far more vulnerable than when we started. This wouldn't change either opinion.

Like many blacks who converted to Islam or even moreso those that converted to "nation of Islam" or are "five percenters(both of which only have trace similarities to real Islam)" some people convert to a religion, be it communism(yes, a secular eschatological mindset) radical environmentalism or Islam because they have some hate or resentment(justified or no) against the US or the West or man's civilization itself.

It's like some people can't just feel what they feel they have to go over to an opposing viewpoint altogether.

So... a story about explosives disappearing before the war started (18 months ago) is news worthy.... but a video tape vowing a potential terror attack leading up to the election is not news worthy.

I hope all Americans realize the great disservice of the network media. Right now, I won't turn on any of the channels.... preferring to get my news from other sources. The only thing I watch ont the network media stations is Mon. night football... and that's only if the Redskins are playing. Americans can change this slant in both TV and print by refusing to be their consumers.

Drudge is now reporting that ABC refused to give 15 minutes of the tape to the CIA to view. Strangely, it is the portion indicating that they shouldnt vote for Bush
