that the Terps are going to be very good this season. I have been wrong before (last week's gut feeling against Philly), but this Terps team looks very strong to me. I don't have quite the National Championship feeling yet. Hell, no one should as the season has just begun. I just see no area of weakness on this team.

The main weakness last season was free throw shooting. Much of that weakness is gone just by the departure of Jamar Smith. They played on cruise control all night and dismantled a pretty good Memphis team.

This was my first opportunity to see the team play this season and I already have fallen in love with James Gist. I will go out on a limb and make the call.....James Gist - ACC Freshman of the Year. This team appears so balanced to me and so VERY deep. I also love what Gary has done with them as well. The team took a trip to Europe during the summer (likely because Gary knows what he has and wanted to season them) and before the last game the ACC Championship banner was taken down. Gary said that nothing that happened last season will affect their fortunes this year. Way to coach 'em up. I love this as a motivational tactic.

This team is deep and will go DEEP into the field of 65.

From what I have read and what I have seen (tonight), they really don't have any one player that you can focus on. They seem to have a very balanced attack and anybody can put up big numbers at any time.

This should be very fun to watch.

I think that the biggest weakness was in shooting.

McCray has not shown a consistant ability to move without the ball to an open spot on the floor and then take the shot.

I don't think he hit a three all night.

We need more production from our 2 to be really good team. Hopefully jones will pass mccray as he seemed to make some good shots, but he's still a liability on defense.

A good zone team will give us trouble.

What we saw last night was an amazing defense, which can take you far, but our half court offense was not doing so well once they switched to zone.

we're in for a rough year if we can't beat teams outside of the ACC....

Maryland will be fine. They can match up with anyone. Gary will have them peaking in March. They will have a few lows but mostly high. They were in a hostile arena for the first time and played a solid team. It was a good learning experience.

Wisconsin is a good team at home, and this loss was not that bad. We are better than them and should've won, but that is a tough place to play in. They've won 30-some times in a row there now. Don't expect Gilchrist and Caner-Medley to play that bad every road game (Caner-Medley was in foul trouble the whole game because of some early BS fouls called on him), but I can understand people worrying about how we'll do on the road in the ACC. Going to Duke, UNC, Wake, Virginia, and NC State will not be fun. Luckily, we only play GA Tech at home. Losing to a ranked team on the road is not a bad loss, even when you know you're better than them. Look at what happened to Wake last night. Ouch. I can guarantee you the Deacs won't forfeit all their road games now, and neither will a Gary Williams team. How the Terps come back and play on Sunday if they meet Michigan State will be a big test and will say a lot about this team's character.
