A new Metro station on the Blue Line will be available for Redskins fans coming to this Sunday's season finale against the Minnesota Vikings at FedExField.
The Metro now stops at the Morgan Boulevard Station, located on Garrett Morgan Boulevard, on the Blue Line. This station is within a 1-mile walking distance to the stadium.

For the last home game this season, Metro will continue to provide bus service from the Landover Station on the Orange Line and the Addison Road Station on the Blue Line.

As with past home games, Redskins fans are urged to arrive early for Sunday's game against the Vikings. Game time is 1 p.m. ET.

Prince George's County police will be slowing and stopping traffic, especially on Landover Road and the Redskins Road entrance to the stadium, in an attempt to protect pedestrians crossing the eight-lane highway and walking on adjacent sidewalks.

Fans are reminded of heightened security considerations in effect. Everyone entering the stadium will be patted down and belongings are subject to search. Please cooperate with security officials and stadium personnel to ensure the most direct entry for the game.

Fans are also reminded that large packages or bags are prohibited in the stadium. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

Backpacks
Gym bags
Duffel bags
Packages or boxes
Briefcases
Large purses
Umbrellas
Fans bringing these items to the entry gates will be required to return them to their vehicle.

So, next year no shuttle service. If you take the metro, you have to walk a mile? Is that what that says?

Although they don't say it explicitly, it does sound that way doesn't it.

Even though it wasn't that long, the walk from the metro to RFK was awesome. They would have people out their playing the trashcan lids and that smell of burnt peanuts. Oh, the good ole days!

I'd rather walk a mile than wait in those gosh darn lines for the shuttle after the game :(

If Metro would allow me to bring alcohol (unopened of course) on, maybe I'd take Metro to the stadium. Who wants to enter the game sober?

But then again I guess I could pregame before hitting the Metro?

It's good they did this but I'll continue to drive to games.

Ahh, the nostalgia. I do miss that about RFK, I recently walked to and from Fedex and it was nowhere near as fun as RFK was.

It's not a mile. It's just past the Green Parking lots on Morgan Blvd (formerly Summerfield Blvd). It's like adding a large cash lot and you happen to park the furthest away. It's a hike, but it's free.

I myself will continue to drive and tailgate at the game.

When my wife & I went to the Giants game a couple of weeks ago, I bought a 20 pack of Budweiser & stuffed it into a duffle bag & THEN got on the Metro. As long as no one sees it & you don't act suspicious, they'll never know.

So it sounds like the stadium is visible when you come out of the station. Sounds good. I figured it'd be easy to just follow the crowd if the stadium weren't visible, but I'd rather know where I'm going than just follow a crowd blindly.

Anyone know if there's room along this walk for vendors, etc? I'd be nice to get back some of that old RFK atmosphere before the game.

A mile is nothing. I can run a mile in 5:15. Think walking across the national mall.

Could we get a report from anyone that used the Metro this week? I'd like to see a photo from the station toward the stadium and vice versa.

Anyone who went to the Skins-vikes and took the metro to the new morgan boulevard station please let us know. How did the "Cash Register" Danny extract the money to get onto Fed-ex field property from you. Did he block off access to the entrance to FeD-ex or did he just gouge you for 5 bucks at the gate?

You'll get chastised for talking about Snyder making money. Most feel like its OK for him to charge for everything under the sun. I'd rather see some smart spending that keeps the money he already has in his pocket so he doesn't need to raise prices. I'm curious as to how the new Metro stop works out.

Morgan Blvd. was fine, FYI. About a 15-20 minute walk to the stadium. And I had to give $0 to Danny. So, two thumbs up.

Yep, no problem at all. It took us 20 minutes to walk to the stadium. The sidewalk is only wide enough for three people across so you can only walk as fast as the people in front of you. No chance to pass anyone.

Coming back to the metro was fine too. You do have to walk across the entrances/exits to the parking lots along Morgan Blvd., but that wasn't much of a problem.

The 15 minutes between trains does create a crowded train though.
