View Full Version : Juan Dixon probably won't be a Wizard

next year , although i wish he was. he plays like he has something to prove, perhaps like he's been slighted, which to some degree he has. he is slightly built (but so is Iverson) but he's got a lot of talent. good defender, smart player, can get his shot, his ball-handling has improved light years and low and behold he can play some point guard. he has heart.
at the time the wiz left him unprotected it was a sound decision but now he is making himself a very key part of the team. there is no way the opponent wants to have to deal with him considering all the other firepower we have.
i hope we can keep him but i think he is making himself some bigtime cash for the future with the way he is playing. this guy is something special. Eddie Jordan knows it too.

I like Juan alot too, but if it comes down to him and Hughes, I'll take Hughes.

He's gonna stay... I mean we dodged a MAJOR bullet when he wasnt picked up in the Expansion draft... I think EVERYONE now truly values him and realizes what he means to this team.
We are gonna lock him up just like we locked up Etan & Haywood...this team is now starting to make the right FA decisions.
We wont keep Kwame but who gives a damm, he hasnt done jack to contribute to our record.
Freeing up that $$$ will allow us to keep Dixon and sign someone else too/or sign possibly the player that we acquire for Kwame.

Juan Dixon is a reserve, a very good reserve, but stil a reserve. And he's going to get reserve contract offers.
We wouldn't have a problem keeping Hughes and Dixon.

I love dixon, although i would take Hughes first because to keep him with Gilbert and Jamison is key!

In Ernie I Trust. He knows who to keep. Gone are the days where Wes Unseld trades Rasheed Wallace for Rod Strickland.

I'm hoping that EG and EJ see what we have seen in Juan, that he is an important part of our team....I would love to keep him and Hughes and I think we will....Juan could earn 6th man of year award next year...realistically....I think he has always played with someone with a chip on his shoulder....I believe both his parents died of AIDS, which can leave you with an attitude....that's why he always brushes his heart before every free throw....

I really wonder why we re-signed Etan. He is a great hussle guy but we definately overpayed for him.

Etan Thomas is a waste of money. He and Ruffin are the exact same type of player, but IMO Ruffin is better.

i can see dixon getting a 4 year 16 mil deal, which is what average reserve guards seem to get usually

I hope that we are willing to extend more than that seeing as how Juan is much better than an AVERAGE reserve.
Oh and for the record, I would take Juan over Hughes. I might be in the minority, but I have watched Juan ever since the first day that he played for the Terps. He just has this intangible about him that screams WINNER.

I'd rather keep Dixon then Kwame Brown.

I have no idea what they will offer him but he is best off the bench. I dont think he would be as effective as a nightly starter.

Because we are weak on muscle up front.
We had/have question marks up front.
We need stability.
If was a great move to keep him.
Give it another 2 weeks and youll know why.

I for one am going to chime in and say.
Im not even worrying about this yet. Im just going to enjoy what we have for now and enjoy the Ws. We have a long way to go before we need to worry about this or until we have enough information to make a smart decission.

I'm still upset about them not picking up his option. We could have kept him around relatively cheap. Now, hes contending for a 6th man of the year award with his recent play.
I know some suggest hes easily replaceable but if we lose him, its going to hurt the depth of our bench for sure. Especially since we dont have a 1st round pick this year.
But i'll save my panic until the end of the season and in the meantine enjoy watching him quiet his critics while we continue to win.

I'm not mad they didn't pick up his option. No one knew he would be this effective, this is his best season yet and I'm glad he proved alot of people wrong. Yet, he's a sixth man, and he's not as effective as a starter.
If re-signing him becomes too expensive then I hope the Wizards wish him luck in the future and let another team overpay for his services.

come on dude get real and give Etan a break, he's just getting back from an injury and there is no way Ruffin is better than Etan plus if you look at it a little deeper Etan brings a better trade value if they were to ever look in that direction.

Stackhouse will probably get the sixth man award but if dixon keeps it up he could be a close second. In my opinion I've always felt the Hayes was our true sixth man. Even though I think Dixon is better but also we have to understand that Hayes is playing hurt and has been for a long time. His shooting hand (thumb) is not right. Its amazing that he's still out there lets give him some props.

Don't worry about Etan. We all know no contract is untradeable (See: Vin Baker/Raef Lafrentz)

if all they want to do is give Hughes a fat deal...and then extend Juan. they can do that.
If they are trying to be player in the FA market. Then no, they can't.

Exactly... Correct me if I'm wrong.. But its my understanding that you can exceed the salary cap to resign your own players, but cant if your trying to sign free agents.
This is how NY got such a high payroll because of the extensions they gave to Houston and Marbury I believe.
I may be wrong, but I believe thats how the NBA salary cap works.

We dont have a pick this year..
Our 1st round pick was traded to Orlando awhile ago for Brendan Haywood. The pick has since been moved around a lot and I believe now belongs to Denver.
This link should clear up any misunderstanding as to what picks this team does or doesnt have in the upcoming years.

Actually I think it belongs to the Nets now, but I could be wrong.
Abe has actually said that he was willing to exceed the luxary tax threshold to keep a winning team together. That and the fact that there may not be a luxary tax next year would lead me to believe that this team can and will be kept together as long as the players want to be here.

Well, at least we're losing our #1 pick in a season when we're not likely to be in the lottery. :D

According to the link I provided, it still belongs to the Nuggets. However, if it does belong to the Nets, its because of the Kenyon Martin deal last year.
Either way, I know its not ours :)
