MOCK DRAFT: ROUND 1

1 (1) 49ers Aaron Rodgers* QB Cal.
49ers officials will try to trade down. If stuck with the No. 1 pick, then Rodgers is the right quarterback in which to rebuild a franchise. He has improved remarkably the last two years and will be ready to play in '05.

2 (2) Dolphins Cedric Benson RB Texas
The Dolphins need a productive running back. Benson is a big, physical back who runs with power and speed, and he never stops hustling.

3 (3) Browns Derrick Johnson OLB Texas
If the QB class was stronger, Cleveland's new front office might start there, and it still might if the 49ers either trade down or pass on Rodgers. But if they start with defense, Johnson will be a cornerstone around whom to build.

4 (4) Bears Braylon Edwards WR Michigan
The Bears are desperate for a go-to receiver. Edwards is a big playmaker with tremendous skills, size and speed.

5 (5) Buccaneers Alex Barron T Florida St.
Barron has the size, strength and athleticism to dominate the line of scrimmage.

6 (6) Titans Erasmus James DE Wis.
James is powerful and athletic and never gives up on a play. He excels both as a pass rusher and run stuffer.

7 (7) Raiders Ronnie Brown RB Auburn
The Raiders had the worst rushing offense in the NFL last season (80.9 yards per game) and need a big upgrade. Brown, a two-dimensional back, can run with power and speed and is a big-time threat as a receiver.

8 (8) Cardinals Alex Smith* QB Utah
Smith made the right decision in coming out after his stellar junior season. He is the right quarterback to guide Arizona's young and potentially dangerous offense.

9 (9) Redskins Heath Miller* TE Va.
Last year Washington had the opportunity to select Kellen Winslow Jr., but passed on him. The team won't let Miller slide -- in addition to his good size, quickness and terrific hands, he also excels as a blocker.

10 (10) Lions Kevin Burnett OLB Tennessee
Burnett has great speed and athleticism. He never stops hustling, shows great tackling skills and has a knack for making big plays.

11 (11) Cowboys Antrel Rolle CB Miami (FL)
Rolle is the shutdown cornerback Dallas desperately needs. He has the size, speed and skills to be a game-altering presence.

12 (12) Chargers Carlos Rogers CB Auburn
(from NY Giants) Rogers is a big, strong and fearless defender with all the tools to be a top NFL corner.

13 (13) Texans David Pollack DE Georgia
The Texans are one season away from being winners. Pollack is a big, physical and experienced end. His size, speed, and relentless pursuit would make him a big-time NFL performer for them.

14 (14) Panthers Elton Brown G Va.
Brown is a dominant force who would open big holes for Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster.

15 (15) Chiefs Adam Jones* CB W.Va.
Kansas City has many defensive needs and picking up Jones would be a smart first step. The early-entry junior has outstanding speed, is tough, and excels at tackling. He would immediately upgrade the Chiefs' secondary.

16 (16) Saints Travis Johnson DT Florida St.
Johnson is a quick, strong, hard hitter who can stop the run and excels at getting penetration.

17 (17) Bengals Thomas Davis* S Georgia
Davis, an outstanding athlete who covers plenty of ground, would be the big, tough, physical presence the Bengals need.

18 (18) Vikings Channing Crowder* ILB Florida
The Vikings have multiple needs on defense. Crowder is a big, aggressive powerful hitter who has the speed and athleticism to cover the field.

19 (19) Rams Marlin Jackson CB Michigan
The Rams may have greater needs, but if Jackson is available here, they would grab him. A tough, physical shutdown corner, he can have an immediate NFL impact.

20 (20) Cowboys Jammal Brown T Oklahoma
(from Buffalo) Brown is giant and athletic with outstanding blocking skills. He would be the perfect addition to the Cowboys.

21 (21) Jaguars Mike Williams* WR USC
Williams would be a steal at this point in the draft. Williams has size and outstanding playmaking ability. With his incredible hands, he and QB Byron Leftwich could be a deadly combination for the next decade.

22 (22) Ravens Troy Williamson* WR S. Carolina
Williamson has blazing speed, and would be a big target for QB Kyle Boller and a great complement to Todd Heap and Jamal Lewis.

23 (23) Seahawks Dan Cody DE Oklahoma
Cody, a tough, physical, speedy end, makes big plays, leads and knows what it takes to win.

24 (24) Packers Shawne Merriman* OLB Maryland
Merriman, big and strong with outstanding skills, has played mostly outside linebacker, but he will be a powerful and aggressive rusher from end.

25 (25) Broncos Carnell Williams RB Auburn
If Williams lasts this far, he would be a nice pickup for Denver, which is looking to trade Reuben Droughns. Williams has great speed, size and lower-body strength. He fights for every yard.

26 (26) Jets Brodney Pool* S Oklahoma
The Jets have multiple needs on defense. Pool is a big, fast playmaker who can make a difference and be an immediate upgrade.

27 (27) Falcons Marcus Johnson T Ole Miss
Although he only has limited experience at tackle, Johnson has great skills and Atlanta line coach Alex Gibbs will work wonders with him. He has the size and wingspan to well-protect Michael Vick.

28 (28) Chargers Adam Terry T Syracuse
The Chargers' line could use an infusion of youth. Terry has the wingspan to push pass rushers wide of the pocket and the blocking skills to open holes for RB LaDainian Tomlinson.

29 (29) Colts Shaun Cody DT USC
Cody creates matchup problems on the line with his quickness and size. He can become a leader and a big-time playmaker for Indy's defense.

30 (30) Steelers Brandon Browner* CB Oregon St.
The Steelers likely will look to upgrade on defense first. Browner, a big, fast, physical corner, can take on big receivers.

31 (31) Eagles Anttaj Hawthorne DT Wis.
Hawthorne has the strength and size to be both a run stopper and an unblockable pass-rush force.

32 (32) Patriots Justin Miller* CB Clemson
The Pats have been hurting in the secondary all season. Miller fits their mold -- he is speedy, tough, athletic and versatile.

There is no way we draft a TE with that pick! Cooley is the man!

Heath Miller at #9? :insane: :stop:

:puke:

what a waste of a #9 pick

Mike Williams falling to 21? Only if he gets caught with a bag of coke and a van full of hookers.

i'd feel better about Heath Miller if we didnt already have cooley.

i hate to say this, but if smoot leaves, im pushing for Antrell Rolle

i'd love to pick up miller but im not sure i'd get him with the 9th pick. The only team that really needs a tight end is the broncos and they won't pick until like the 23rd. I trade down pick up a extra pick then get him, but definitely not at number nine.

I dont think we need a TE that bad.

bobzmuda
February-2nd-2005, 03:20 PM
A TE is exactly what the Skins need since Joe Gibbs needs to shrink the field on offense even more.

February-2nd-2005, 03:24 PM
damn if they say williams is going to fall to number 21...we should trade down like crazy, get a lot more picks, and select him in the late teens...shoot, i really hope the draft pans out the way they say...except for the whole redskins picking heath miller thing...what a waste at number 9....dont any of these mock draft "experts" read the cities newspapers to see what the teams really want to go after...i mean like last year, up until about 2 days before the draft, all the mock drafts had us picking Harris at DT....if they has researched correctly, they would know e were either picking Winslow or Taylor

Maybe so but not with the 9th overall pick we can always get a good TE in the later rounds. A TE wont be that valuable to our offense because he wont get that many passes and we have Cooley who played well last year.

February-2nd-2005, 03:29 PM
Ooooh so I wish we had picked KWII last year so we wouldn't have to pick a TE this year!!! Just joking, apparently Cooley is still a no name to the media. But personally, I think he is one of the best spent draft picks we've had in awhile (with the exception of Lavar, S. Taylor and Shuler(just joking again on the last).

CB Corey Webster may fall to the third round, in which case he would be a steal. We need Mike Williams if he is available. blah, blah, blah. I just think a TE would not be that effective considering we have an H-back offense...

With Williams' talent, that would only drop him to #15. Now add in a donkey and a couple of greased up midgets... then maybe we're talking #21. ;)

Cooley does not play TE.

Yep, Cooley is an H-back. He does not play TE.

I'd love to get Miller (i think he's exactly what we need) but we can probably trade down a little and still get him.

a perfect TE for us would be Itula Mili from the Seahawks. - 6'4" 260lbs, excellent blocker and can catch. - The Seahawks have a bunch of free agents this year and won't be able to keep them all. - This guy shouldn't be real expensive either.

I don't think Rolle is even the best corner in this draft, and we don't need him even without Smoot.

Nope, if this happens the Raiders take him at 7 cause he is already one of the boys. :D

I know, right?

All anyone would have to do is log onto Extremeskins.com and find out that we all have our collective finger on the pulse of all things Redskins.

I think last year the board was about 75% Taylor, 23% Winslow, and 2% DE/trade down.

And this year Gibbs made it easy by telling us receiver is the #1 priority:cool:

Once free agency pans out I'm sure we'll figure the draft out just like we do every year.

Not what I'm rooting for, but two monster TEs equals success. I know technically Cooley doesn't play TE, but who you fooling? Cooley/Miller, just like Clark/Pollard, Graham/Foriere, etc.

Matador36
February-2nd-2005, 05:43 PM
I swear these writers read our posts!!!

Miller yes but only after a trade down if Williams and Edwards are gone.

NOPE wont happen i gaurantee you that.. I would be so mad

Warhead36

Way too early and no way we pass on Mike Williams for Miller.

Awesome
February-2nd-2005, 07:28 PM
Pathetic. we could trade down to 20 and still have a shot at Miller.
He's got tons of receptions and great hands, but when was the last time you saw Miller juke someone?
No way he'll go anywhere near that. He's a late first rounder at best.

No way we dont pick Williams if he is there. I just wont happen in this lifetime.

It would open up the game with a good pass catching tightend. He is a good blocker as well. But we could trade down to the late teens and select him. Value wise it might be better if we picked up Milli from Seattle. I just dont see us passing up a good wr or de in the 1st. I believe Fiore from the Patriots is a free agent as well.

February-2nd-2005, 07:46 PM
Unless Mike Williams and every other receiver runs a 5.1 40 or we break the bank to sign a big-time free agent receiver, there is no way we take Heath Miller with our first pick -- I don't care if we trade down or what.

skinsaddict
February-2nd-2005, 08:38 PM
im on the miller bandwagon.

he is a quality pick. he wont be drunk on a wednesday night, i dont think. he would be a longtime, quality redskin...joe gibbs style.

that being said, i wouldnt mind trading down if mike williams was really falling down the draft list that fast.

If we take that damn TE over Mike Williams I will seriously drive to Redskins park personally!!!!!

TXREDSKINS44
February-2nd-2005, 08:45 PM
No way do we draft a TE! I still think we will go after a DE!!

JonBlaze
February-2nd-2005, 08:52 PM
Drafting Miller would essentially be drafting an extension of the OL in the 1st round. Cooley might not technically be a TE, but Gibbs likes to use him in the passing game and admitted during the season he wish he did so earlier. Putting Cooley out in routes means the TE is staying home and blocking. Miller would certainly be a "nice to have", but right now the Skins seem to have more pressing needs. Free agency might change this, but as of now, taking Miller would like a mistake.

We will not draft Heath Miller.

Also, if Smoot walks, I am all over the Antrel Rolle Bandwagon. Him and Sean back together, I love it.

BayouBrave86
February-2nd-2005, 10:57 PM
Uh, I hope we don't draft Corey Webster, he is too raw at the CB position, would take a little while for him to become a solid corner.

this mock is way off , there is no way we draft heath and williams wont last until 21.

:nono: Not so fast my friend!

Their is no way in hell we draft a TE at #9, especially w/Mike Williams still on the board...

TSN mocks are some BS, I've seen better mocks by some of the members of this board!
