Irvin Rejection Fuels Theory Of Cowboys Bias
Michael Irvin 'Disappointed,' Looks Forward To Future Voting
POSTED: 9:12 pm CST February 5, 2005
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Is anti-Cowboys bias preventing former team members from getting into the NFL Hall of Fame?
The speculation began last year, according to NBC 5 sports anchor Derek Castillo, when Rayfield Wright and Bob Hayes failed to make induction.
Both men were finalists to get in, but to the surprise of many, didn't. And the omissions reportedly led some fans to speculate that some voters -- mostly football writers -- just didn't like the Cowboys and would never vote a Cowboy into the Hall.
That notion picked up more steam Saturday, Castillo said, when former Cowboy wide receiver Michael Irvin was also not voted into the Hall. One of six finalists, and a first-timer on the ballot, Irvin did not receive enough votes for induction.
Irvin went to five Pro Bowls and won three Super Bowls in his 11 seasons in Dallas. He said he was "disappointed" by the voting results, but said he looks forward to being considered in the future.
Those who did make it in included Dan Marino, former Dolphins quarterback who threw for more than 61,000 yards in his career and made 420 touchdowns.
Former 49ers quarterback Steve Young is also in. Young led San Francisco to a Super Bowl win in 1995. He also won two MVP awards.
Other inductees are Fritz Pollard -- the first black head coach in the NFL in 1921 -- and Benny Friedman -- a player in the late 20s and early 30s who was one of the first great quarterbacks in the NFL.

WHATEVER!!!
And next year, Troy is eligible. No WAY 2 cowboys make it. So Irvin won't make it next year.
Surely it will FINALLY be Monk's time!!
