Those contracts were restructured to help get us further under the salary cap. Obviously, it's to help us sign Smoot/Pierce but also so we can make some other moves as well.

Samuels needs to restructure or be released.

Yes, hopefully we can resign Smoot, to a reasonable contract. That way re defense can stay intact.

If the Skins are only 1.9M under most of that will be eaten up when they tender their 5 or 6 RFA's at the end of the month. An important question is has Samuels officially notified the Skins of his intention to void 06. If he has done so then an extra 2.2M of proration from 06 is already reflected in that figure. If he hasn't done so then he could wipe out the Skin's cap space by doing so. Unless they release a few players any cap space needed for the Skins to re-sign their old FA's or sign other team's FA's will have to come from a resolution of the Samuel's situation.

Because Redskins' offensive tackle Jon Jansen and defensive end Renaldo Wynn restructured their contracts recently, the Skins are now under the salary cap. has saved $1.9 million in salary cap money. The Washington Post reports that Jansen saved the Redskins $1.9 million, leaving the team roughly $2 million under the cap.

OUR VIEW

The Redskins are under the cap, but they don't have enough room to be big players in free agency like they have been in past years.

BTW....That badly wordrd blurb seems to be saying Jansen saved them 1.9M of cap space but since he was only scheduled to make 2M and he has to be paid at least the minimum that is incorrect.

Totally. Even with the success the Eagles have had, I don't understand why anybody here hates any team more than the Cowboys.
