That's great... he was a high risk low reward FA we have a history of signing. Now... if Plexiglass would just be signed somewhere than we'd be out of the running of all "great potential" guys who most often come to the Redskins and "bust".
Mason... Givens.... Patten.... Bruce... should be our focus. Crafty veterans to lead Jacobs/DMAC/Thrash/ and the rookie wideout Williams, Williamson, or Roddy WHite.

I am not so big on Patten, he didn't do much to break into NE's starting spot and he is in his 30's. Now if we are looking at any of the NE's wr's I would prefer Givens and even Brown, we will need some help at CB :D

that also betters the odds that the Raiders won't take Williams ahead of us:cool:

So is Porter Norv Turner's new Michael Westbrook?

Porter was never going to be our #1 WR, even if we signed him. This year, his best year BY FAR as a five year pro, he had 64 catches for 998 yards.
Don't weep to hard for the guy.

Take Patten off the list and I agree 100%.

Great! Now trade Coles. Sign Plaxico Burress and draft Mike Williams.
BEAST!
WE can afford it cause Mike Willaims will be playing under a #9 rookie contract and Burress will take up Coles and Gardner's contract.

Patten and Givens fit in with Patriots Scheme but I don't know if they're #1 WR's.

The free-agent signing period doesn't commence until March 2 but already one of the most coveted offensive playmakers is off the market.

Wide receiver Jerry Porter, a five-year veteran who would have been among the top unrestricted players at his position, has reached agreement on a multi-year contract extension that will keep him with the Oakland Raiders, ESPN.com has learned.
Financial details of the contract, which Porter likely will sign Tuesday afternoon, were not immediately available. It is expected, however, that Porter will receive $8 million-$10 million in guarantees. Negotiations had accelerated in recent days as the Raiders made the retention of Porter a priority.
Porter a few weeks ago rejected the Raiders' proposal for a five-year, $20 million deal.
Because he had achieved certain performance levels, Porter had the right to void the 2005 portion of his existing contract and he said last week that was his intention. But Porter is a big part of the Raiders' vertical passing game, a player who starting quarterback Kerry Collins had urged the franchise to keep, and Oakland management realized that he would have been a hot commodity in the free agent pool.
The agreement with Porter means that the Raiders, for the second consecutive year, will designate cornerback Charles Woodson as a "franchise" player. Club officials had toyed with the idea of applying the "franchise" marker to Porter, but the new accord makes that a moot point. It will cost the Raiders $10.529 million for the one-year qualifying offer that accompanies the Woodson "franchise" tag.
Porter, 26, enjoyed a breakout season in 2004, posting career bests in receptions (64) and receiving yards (998) and tying his career high with nine touchdown catches. The former West Virginia University standout, a second-round choice in the 2000 draft, also had 17 receptions of 20 or more yards.
Although he started the '04 campaign slowly, with just one touchdown catch in the first 10 outings of the season, Porter came on strong, particularly after developing a rapport with Collins, an excellent deep thrower.
Porter had eight touchdown catches in the final six games, including two contests with three touchdown grabs each, and averaged 18.3 yards per catch in that stretch. His season included three 100-yard outings.
In 69 career appearances, and 32 starts, Porter has 163 receptions for 2,273 yards and 19 touchdown passes. His ratio of one touchdown catch per every 8.6 receptions is one of the best in the NFL over the past five years. Porter's average yards per reception also has increased every season of his career.

I think they're gonna stick with Collins the next two years, so the opposite of what you said is probably gonna happen. Norv likes running backs he can base playaction off of, expect Collins/Porter to do much better with a solid running back.

Monty I know the need a RB but I wouldn't be surprised with the first pick they will go after a QB if one of the prized ones are there. I think they will draft both in this draft, just depends on where the players are when they pick.

unless they wind up with Travis Henry or Barlow, I too think they will draft a RB in the 1st and D-line in 2nd.
Remember Norv got to see a lot of RB's up close in the senior bowl.

Man, if Porter was one of the "coveted" WR free agents, then imagine what Coles could fetch, or even Gardner. Not that I want Coles to be gone, by any means.

well now that he is no longer an option, who do we look at? Mason will cost too much and Plaxico, who might be better with a different environment is really just another Garnder.
With everything that is going on and us not knowing really what is happening with Coles, I'm a bit worried. I don't want to totally revamp the WR corp. Anway who would you guys want us to look at.
BTW I no longer think Williams will fall to us, or Edwards. Guess we have to trade down now
oops! sorry, my computer is acting funny and I didn't see the thread that was already started about Porter.

I wonder if this means Gardners asking price just went up. Maybe we can get that second now afterall with Porter off the market.

So Tuisasasopa (sp?) is not going to get another chance? He did pretty well before he got hurt two years ago. I don't know why they wouldn't at least give him a shot.
