Good to hear the Rolle rumor is bogus.
I'm guessing the bonus offer is probably more than $10 mil, but less than the $14 mill that Smoot wants.

Coles Moss still not dead? Jeez this thing will never die out with Coles!

I dont want S. Moss and I dont want Coles if he has this lit tampon fuse attitude on this team either.

So are we negotiating with Rolle at all?

I always figured the 15million dollar figure was bogus, either bad reporting, or an intentional "leak" from one of the agents/reps to try to solicit higher or matching offers, or generally screw with the perception of the skins FO. If you are Smoot and you are negotiating on a 12m SB and then you hear the skins are going to offer Rolle 15, you flip out and bail on talks.

So the deal is still alive? What did Danny do....promise LC he could legitimately go shoe shopping with Peter Warrick?

I agree , why would we let Smoot go b/c his bonus demands where too high, yet go after another player and pay him more.. that would make no sense..

Probably, but the 15 million signing bonus rumors were just ideas thrown out there by Dan Snyder hating reporters.
If there is going to be an offer on the table, it's probably a 10-12 million bonus.

I agree Oldskool. I don't want either of them also. I can only hope that we can acquire a #1 pick from one of the other interested teams.

Because it was probably fabricated by Pastabelly, Czabe or someone else out there trying to get ratings or readers. Any one with an IQ higher than Forrest Gump could tell you the $15m was either an outright fabrication or just stupidity at work.

the first deal the Jets were going to eat the roster bonus... and HAD to re-do Coles contract . When Samuels signs, the Skins will take the hit.... and Coles can't do squat.
however the Jets will have to offer more than Moss this time.

Ugh. I wish the Moss deal were dead, but I'm glad we're not giving Samari $15 mil.

At this point, I am still sad to see Coles go, but I think it's necessary. As I posted in another thread, I thought that Coles was a Redskin kind of guy, but it turns out he fooled me and many others.

Bubba,
Is this speculation or just your thoughts?
First.- Both the Daily Press & USA today had mention that The Jets were going to take on the roster bonus (in fact almost every report before Lenny P's rant... had that the Jets were going to) the DP said they had confirmation from a Jet FO person. The USA Today, said when asking a NFL official about it... he "wouldn't" deny that the Jets were going too eat the bonus.
Second.- Common sense tells you that was the only way it could happen when it did. The Skins didn't have the cap room... and they were trying to get Coles to agree by March 1st. The Jets were a team Coles would possibly agree to be traded to.... but with out the cap room... how could the Skins complete the deal? In fact reports stated that the Skins didn't get serious about the Samuels negotiations until after the deal fail through.
Third.- A player under contract can request whatever he wants... but it doesn't matter unless the FO is dumb enough to listen. Coles has no bargaining power to veto a trade, or demand anything... unless the Jets "HAD" to re-do his contract because of the roster bonus.
Fourth.- Since the Jets were going to trade Moss, and eat the roster bonus... but now the Skins will have to.... you don't think we will still only except Moss straight up.... especially since there are at least 4 other teams bidding if we take the cap hit.
FINALLY... don't ever believe Everything Lenny P reports on the Skins. Even if the basics are correct, he always leaves out details, or slants the story to make the Skins (Snyder) to look as bad as possible.

time to weigh in.
The Rolle rumors are just that, and vastly overstated.
On Coles, let's all take a deep breath and think back. Everything you have heard/read is based on "sources" and none of them from the Redskins. Gibbs has been clear and consistent in his two comments: Coles is valued, Coles is valuable. He has made it clear that Coles will be a Redskins unless someone comes up with a plan that does not damage the Skins.
Coles, and/or his agent, have tried hard to keep the pot stirred, but the ball is in his court. Gibbs has said unequivocally that he will not be released. If his is to be traded, Coles must come up with a partner that returns value to the Redskins. The team is NOT going to take a hit on his behalf. He wants out, so he has to find a way.
Bottom line: the Redskins are moving forward. Coles, although he has expressed the desire to move to another team, isn't going anywhere unless the Skins are compensated.
This is prudent and solid management. This is our team and we should be pleased that things are being handled responsibly. Listen to Gibbs, he has been open and frank. "Sources" are working from their own agenda.

If Samuels restuctures, we can always wait until after March 1st to trade Coles. The cap relief will then come in 2006 not 2005, but it is still cap relief. This may be even better if we can get more than just Moss in the trade--like Moss and a draft choice.

After Spurrier quit many went crazy at the rumors going around about who the next coach was going to be. Everyone was surprised (except Buddha). There's a lot of smoke in the air, but there's also a lot of wind. Hard to tell where the fire really is.

if the Jets think Moss is a #2 or even #3 receiver on their team why do we want him on ours? :)
take a draft pick for Coles and let's bring in a younger player that has better size and a better chance to be a #1 in the NFL :)
at some point the revolving door of veteran players has to stop.
if Coles wants out, fine. let's recoup an extra first day pick for him and add that to what we get for 50/50.
those picks in addition to our own at #9 will make Day 1 of the draft top to bottom of interest to Skins fans for the first time in quite a while :D

I wish we could stockpile picks for Gardner and Coles and get WRs through the draft. Danny has not built anything organically in his life... Everything is built through M&A. Rome was not built in a day.
Just think if the Internet bubble had burst in 98 and not in early 2001, Danny would still be in the 300 level of Fedex and making a couple million a year vs. being worth $700MM. The Redskins FO may have had Beathard or Wolf running it, and we may have been to the Superbowl.
Its all becuase the Dang French bought out Snyder Communications for $1.3Billion......that firm would be worth zero if it was still listed on the NYSE.

I have no problem whatsoever with Snyder. I love him as a owner. I wouldn't want anybody else running my team. At least he spends money and tries. We've had some bad luck no doubt, but we've got the king back. Everything is going to be aight.

Dan Snyder is a horrible owner on many levels.
My hope is that he gives up his hold on the team before I die.
