Since according to Coles and his agent did the Skins want to release him all along, and hope to work out a trade in the meanwhile?? Since Gibbs strongly said that there that they were never going to release him, now does he think that he has to go by his word even if it was not what the original plan was??
What do all of you think about paying him the 5 mill roster bonus, where we will be stuck with him for sometime, or just flat out releasing him if he eats the 5 mill and then can be happy?
I know we have all talked abou this in detail, but how would you feel if we did just flat out released him and started fresh?
My personal opinion would be not to pay him the 5 mill and just release him. A lot of you might say you can't let the player dictate the actions, but a lot of teams now release players before they are stuck with someone that don't want to be there and having to pay them a lot of money.

If he gives the $5 Mil back, let him go. I really don't want him
here if he doesn't want to be here. My concern with keeping
him is would become a cancer?

If we have to pay the 5 million, we won't be able to do much in free agency.

Unless we can get out of the 5+ million we'd have to pay, there is no way we can just release him. I don't partically want him here either, anymore. I too am afraid of him becoming a locker problem, but I don't think that Gibbs would let such things happen. I think that we have to keep him this year and then next year we can deal him out, when will get a much lower cap hit.

I was under the impression that if we release him, we would get out of the $5M payment.
I guess I'm misinformed.

I just hate how it seems Coles has all the power in this and is being an ***** about it. ..he's crippling the skins options to get what he wants. True it's a business, blah blah blah...but still.
NFL Total Access on the NFL Network reported the Skins being close to a deal with Samari Rolle and that Smoot will be released March 2nd. Of course its speculation/rumor at this point but that's the latest I saw on there.
Edit: just what was said. I didnt say it. also like someone else said on here..that Adam Schefter guy on NFL network reported his sources say Washington isn't interested in Rolle *lol*
You know how all of this goes. just talk.

How do you release a Free Agent?

Trade him or make him play. He's under contract. I would prefer to trade him, as we gave up a first rounder to get him. Whatever we do, we should minimize the cap hit we get and hopefully get some value for him. Simply cutting him doesn't make much sense at this point.

Keep him and sit his ***** on the bench. I have lost all respect for this guy at this point.

Coles probably figures the Skins let it get out he wanted to be released so it would make it harder for him to stay with the team and might make him willing to give back money so he could get traded. I wonder if he'd even give back $$$ for a release now? Maybe he'll attempt to be a distraction and hope they release him after 6/1 so he gets his 5M and the chance to sell himself on the open market come 6/1. This year there should still be a lot of money around after 6/1 and if not he could still sign a 1 year contract for more than the 1.5M he's set to make in 05.

this is the last day we'd be able to write off the 5 million signing bonus for this year. If he gave it back after today than we'd only be able to count it against next years cap.

Let him pay back all the bonus minus the two prorated years and give him his liberty. Can you do this w/o cap consequences? If Coles pays the accerlerated portion back it would not count as a cap hit, would it?
