Scouts Inc. Scouting Report

2004 Scouting Report - Football Scouts Inc.
Name: Casey Rabach
Position: Center
Grade: 69 | Key
Alert: None

Comment:
Rabach shows a good understanding of the game. He takes excellent angles to his blocks and generally gets into good position. Shows good footwork in pass protection, possesses adequate lateral mobility in the short area and flashes the ability to redirect inside because he plays with good awareness and body control. Didn't sustain any serious injuries at the college level and has been durable throughout his NFL career. The problem is that Rabach is a much better football player than he is an athlete, and he also is a little bit of a tweener OG/OC that lacks ideal size/strength at OG and lacks ideal athletic ability at OC. Isn't as effective as he needs to be on pulls and lacks the speed to turn the corner. Doesn't have the bulk to anchor against effective bull rushers and will get pushed back into the pocket. Overall, Rabach has shown that he is capable of filling in over a short period of time at both the OG and OC positions.

I would like it if we got Casey but we should not go nuts paying him.

Seems like a solid, but not superstar player. I think thats what we need. As long as we DONT OVERPAY!

My concern would be this. Don't the Ravens have a lot of cap room? If they want him, they should be able to outbid us. If they don't want him, why would we?

The have alot of money tied up in Flynn. Word is that they like Rabach better, it's just that they can't invest the $ in both.

His scouting report reminds me alot of Raymer...Especially the part about him getting knocked back into the pocket on the bull rush.

If we sign him we will play him at center correct because it lists him at guard??

He's there second string center, so they don't need to put that much money into him.

What bothers me is while is defenitly best available center,he doesn't sound like the long term answer. Better than Raymer? A permant answer?

I am all for a upgrade for the center. I like raymer but need more size there

Sounds like a player to go after. Warm bodies of his caliber on the team would be great.

would be concerned with the push up the middle and not being able to pull !!! but probally an upgrade.

wait a minute: gets bullrushed into the pocket? isn't that precisely the problem we have with Raymer et al?

I realize that the team has better insights...but this doesn't seem to answer the mail....

Hey, as long as he can push his guy a few inches farther than Raymer on 4th and inches, then he is better.

Aside from Mawae, how many centers are there in the NFL that pull on a regular basis?

Utah

We pull our center alot more then most.

Raymer's biggest problem was point of contact, he just could not physically deliever a blow that would stop the Dlinemen.

According to ESPN's scouting report Rabach is rated 69 like mentioned above....which is at the high end of "Adequate Starter" with 70 being "Good Starter"....just for a reference Freidman is only rated 1 lower at 68 and Raymor is at 65. Doesn't sound like a huge upgrade to me.

Rabach is rated at the 30th best center in the league

Freidman is rated as the 35th

Raymor 42...

I hope we don't go over the top on this guy...

This report was done going into the 2004 season and Rabach did prove himself as a starter last year, so maybe he rated a lot higher now.....I wish they would upgrade their rankings

It's the same report that has Sean Taylor ranked at 30 going into last year.... so take it for what it's worth.

I find this statement absurd:

Doesn't have the bulk to anchor against effective bull rushers

He's 300 pounds. If you look at all the centers around the league, that is average or above average. Not many centers are above 300 (there are a couple around 310), but most are right about 300, with several weighing even less.

You can check for yourself the size of the league's centers here (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerindex/POS_C)

Bulk is not the issue here. It's about attitude, skill, intelligence and coaching.

A new reporting of the 2005 Free Agents has Rabach rated at 70. Just 1 point higher than at this point last year....:(
