If this is true, it's a nice, nice signing. It also means we'll be concentrating in other areas in the draft. We didn't have huge holes to begin with. This is a nice way to work on fixing them.

I think Friedman is young but Raymer is a little better than him.I think Raymer will be gone

I wouldn't. A guy like Lenny P. would probably eat anything anywhere. :)
I don't know much about this guy from the Ravens, but we all knew that Gibbs was going to go after a veteran center. He's not going to rely on a rookie center from the draft.
The Redskins did a good job in FA last off-season. I trust thier judgement.

yea i saw that in the baltimore sun paper this morning , Rabach took over the center duties when their #1 center Flynn went down with a injury in the preseason and started all 16 games at center , when Flynn came back apparently he couldn't win his starting job back , i think this is agood move on the redskins part and rabach will be the center we were looking for .

I talked to some raven fans I know and they are pissed the ravens are letting him go.they said he was definately better than Flynn but the ravens dont have the cap wiggle room to keep both.
the skins are definately getting a good guy especially of he is better than a center who helped a back eclipse 2000 yards.

Getting depth and quality in the trenches is never a bad idea to me. We all know being Skins fans. We kept quality offensive and defensive line in the glory days. A great line can make average skill position players look better. Thats on both sides of the ball.

this signing is awesome, for a whole bunch of reasons
1) this guy is a definite upgrade and we've helped ourselves at the center position
2) we can cross off one position off our draft checklist
3) it shows that danny's still got his mojo working -- this is somenoe we''ve been targeting, and less than 12 hours into free agency, we close a deal on him

Associated Press
ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins opened free agency Wednesday by
agreeing to terms for a contract with center Casey Rabach, The Associated
Press has learned.
Rabach and the Redskins reached a deal at 2:30 a.m., shortly after the
free agency signing period began at midnight, an official within the
league told the AP on condition of anonymity. Rabach, who spent the last
four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, was driving to Redskins Park later
in the morning for a physical and was expected to sign before the day was
over.
The Redskins also scheduled a news conference for Wednesday afternoon to
formally announce the re-signing of left tackle Chris Samuels. Samuels
will receive a seven-year, $47 million contract with a team-record $15.75
signing bonus, according to the source.
Rabach was a third-round draft pick from Wisconsin by the Ravens in 2001
and became a starter last year. The Redskins want him to strengthen the
interior of the offensive line. Lennie Friedman started last season at
center and replaced by Cory Raymer after two games.
The two edges of the line should be in solid shape with Samuels'
resigning. The Redskins now have long-term deals with Samuels and right
tackle Jon Jansen, who is expected to return in full health after missing
last season with a ruptured Achilles' tendon.
The Redskins needed to redo Samuels' contract because he was scheduled to
count a whopping $9.5 million against the salary cap this year,
restricting the team's ability to re-sign players and acquire new ones.
Samuels' signing bonus tops the club-record $15.5 million linebacker LaVar
Arrington received in a nine-year, $68 million contract signed in December
2003.
Samuels was the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2000 from Alabama, where he
won the Outland Trophy as college football's top lineman. He made the Pro
Bowl in 2001 and 2002 before a knee injury and loss of confidence caused
him to slump in the 2003 season. He rebounded with a solid season last
year and has been named by Joe Gibbs as one of the core group of players
around which the coach hopes to rebuild the franchise.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I really want Coles to stay. He's the best WR we have, he's got a rapport with Ramsey, and he's a hard working professional. When the season starts rolling we will forget all about this mess and so will he.
But I digress - this isn't another Coles thread. Sorry.

Well, I don't know how much we could possibly upgrade over Thomas. He seems to be working out pretty well. We could upgrade LG, but Dockery is young, finished last season strong, and has some experience playing on the line with Samuels, Thomas, and Jansen. I'd keep him for continuity's sake and the hope that he will continue to improve.

Rabauch is a C/OG he could push Dockery if we can find a stud Center in the draft. This guy is a step up from Raymer, but only a step. I don't think that he will be the longterm answer but only a temporary one, and he's great for depth, due to the fact that he can play both guard and center.
This years draft is extremely deep at the center postition, and it would be a HUGE mistake not to look for a young stud project.

You speacifically said that we need to draft a "guard" to push Dockery, not we need to draft OL. Wilson and Molinaro may be fighting for playing time at the Guard postition, but Rabach has actually played in the NFL at a very good level at Guard. He is the one you want to push Dockery, and let the two sophmores concentrate on takle in case (God forbid) something happens to either Jansen or Samuels.

First of all, I never said that we need to draft a lineman. I have also said that I want Wahle to man the LG spot and that he is an upgrade over Dockery. I would use Dockery for depth.

(OK, so I said it someplace else)
I think he looks like a Klingon.
(I also remember making that observation about another of our players, last year. Maybe I have a fixation.)

Now that's what I'm talking about!!
If we can get at least a 3rd for 50/50 it will allow us to move up into the 2nd to do this. :helmet:

Good signing. Rabach is solid and young. I can't wait to see what Bugel does for his career.

Sounds like a nice pick-up, but I'm not doing a happy dance just yet. I like the kid from MI, Baas. Baas rhymes with Hauss. ;)
I know everyone thinks Gibbs is opposed to starting a rookie center, but I still contend if he starts a rookie at H-back, he'll start one anywhere except QB.

Still want to trade down, especially if Mike is gone. I like Troy Williamson and Clayton alot but not at number 9. If we trade say with the Vikings and pick up a second then we are money. We can get Baas for C/G backup position and Buges will teach the boy how to use all that talent to land in the Pro Ball one day.:D . Then with Gardner's and our own number 3 we can go CB, DE or blocking TE. Man getting Rabach was a huge help.

6'4"?
Seems kinda tall for a center. :paranoid:
4 years in the league, and it looks as thought he hasn't hit his potential. I think Bugel will be able to make him an all-pro.

I read that Mike Flynn from the Ravens signed a 10-12 mill contract last season with a 4 mill bonus. Rabach should not be above that.
I really hope Snyder didn't go ape on the SB money, but the thought of him agreeing to terms only 2 hours after midnight on the first day of FA, scares me that he did.... once again.
We will see.

This is where I think we almost HAVE TO try everything we can to trade our #9 pick down to pick up the second that we gave away. With a low to mid level 2nd we will have a shot at Baas. And if not there should still be a WR or DE there somewhere that will make it worth the move.
I don't think our cap in the next few years can withstand another top ten pick in the first round, exp. after Samuels contract.

If MIke Williams is off the board then I think that we will trade down, other wise I think that we will cross our fingers that we can maybe get a low second or a high third for 50/50, and still find a guy like Baas.

No way Baas is there in the 3rd... that'd be a great steal.

Great signing for the Redskins. It really helps shore up the interior of the O-Line (a definite weakness last season).

Fox Sports Radio is reporting the deal was signed at 2:30am last night, but no details on terms. Definitely seems like this was our priority and now we are taking a more measured approach.
Now sign Pierce & Smoot, draft a stud WR and we're ready to saddle up!
