Because Bubba evidently fell asleep on the couch, I'll post this one tonight.
And Kendrell Bell reportedly wants more pesos than Pierce? Hmm. :paranoid:

Deal with LB Pierce likely

The Giants last night appeared close to completing a contract with Antonio Pierce to fill a gaping hole in the middle of their linebacking corps.
A league source said the sides were talking seriously and an announcement could come today. The team would not confirm that a deal is in place.
Acquiring Pierce would fulfill a top priority and secure a rising talent who last season filled in capably for the Redskins for injured Mike Barrow. The risk is that the 6-1, 240-pound Pierce, 26, has only one full season as a starter. But he is regarded as a smart, tough player who would bolster a spot manned last year by career backup Kevin Lewis.
Foxsports.com reported Pierce's contract would be for $26 million over six years, with a bonus of $6.5 million. That would be far less than the bonus the Steelers' Kendrell Bell is believed to covet.
Bell visited the Giants yesterday, the first day of the free- agent period, and there were reports early in the day that he had agreed to a contract. But by late afternoon, no deal was in place and Bell left town. It was unclear whether the Giants prefer Pierce, whether Bell's price rose too high or whether the Giants had concerns with Bell's physical condition; he missed all but three games last season.
The agent for Jets tackle Kareem McKenzie said the Giants were among several teams to call; he said McKenzie plans to visit, perhaps today, but that there is a chance he could re-sign with the Jets.
Guard Mike Wahle interested the Giants, but the Panthers are believed to be favored to land him. Jonas Jennings, the best left tackle on the market, reportedly has agreed to terms with the 49ers. The Giants were one of several teams to contact right tackle Fred Miller.
The receiver market further thinned as the Ravens signed Derrick Mason and the Bengals re-signed T.J. Houshmandzadeh. That left Plaxico Burress as the lone big name. He figures to be too costly for the Giants. David Terrell is a cheaper option.
Receiver Ike Hilliard has a $750,000 bonus due March 15 and has been speaking to the Giants about restructuring. If he doesn't agree to a pay cut, which he appears disinclined to do, he will be in danger of being cut.
