Apoligize if this has been posted.
On espnradio this morning it has been reported that Lamant Jordan has agreed to a deal with the Oakland Raiders. The Jets have now lost one of their stud DT's and now a very good RB.
Oakland might be a good team for at least fanasty owners next year

The Jets had offers on the table for both players but were obviously beat.

They are getting robbed because they are losing good players. I think letting Jordan go is a big mistake. Martin is 31.

Interesting. Robbery implies someone stole property that belonged to you. As both of these players were UFAs and no longer property of the Jets, that would be an odd characterization of events.
With regard to the loss of Ferguson, as you're aware, the Jets have 4 first round DL-men still on the roster (including 2 Pro Bowlers), as well as additional depth. As for Jordan, the Jets have a HOF RB who was the 2004 NFL rushing leader, and as a result were unable to promise LJ the 100% starting job that he coveted. Lastly, the Jets have a significant amount of cap space to shore up any areas of weakness and/or improve on areas of strength. In other words, the season hasn't been cancelled yet.

Let's explain the Jets' order of priorities in dealing with players who were scheduled to hit the open market prior to the 2005 season.
Lock up:
Pennington
Ellis
Abraham
Done.
Done.
Done.
With ample cash still remaining in pocket, the offseason is already a success. Excuse my while I ask Coles or Smoot if they've got any gravy. ;)

Flow yes you have other good DT's but he was the best of them all. Yes you have a HOF rb but he is 31 and how much longer can he put up 1600 yard seasons, as a jet fan I am surprised that you are not pointing your anger towards your team but trying to spin it like everything is fine in jetland :D
By the way it was Mike and Mike in the morning who said the Jets were getting robbed and he is their biggest fan, so don't shoot the messenger

As much as needling Flowtrain to stimulate his long-winded explanations can be ( ;) ), I have to side with him here. Jordan has yet to prove anywhere that he can carry the load for an entire season. He's looked good in limited action . . . but then so did Skip Hicks.
The criticism of the Jets has been that they've overpaid for people or else got involved in one-sided trades with other teams, or else didn't secure good young talent with contracts, i.e. the "Jetskins" of 2002. While both Jordan and Martin are good players, only one can be considered a player who can be expected to play for many more years given his age (Jordan), and he's the least proven of the two guys.
In other words, both are replaceable from a FA standpoint.

Ferguson and Robertson had comparable seasons at DT. Now, I'm sure you can find a casual observer who thought Ferguson played better because his number was called more during telecasts. But those who watched closely understood that Robertson was consistently double-teamed and sometimes triple teamed, leaving Fergie to beat a single lineman.
Isn't it odd that Fergie has been a Jet for 8 years, but his best play came when paired next to Robertson? Not really. DR is now entering his third season, and it was widely believed that he was close to Pro Bowl caliber last year. How would you say that speaks to DR's potential upside relative to JF who turns 31 this year?
I would've loved to have kept Ferguson, but as noted the line still features Abe, Ellis, Robertson, and Bryan Thomas who started in place of Abe down the stretch - and James Reed has backed up the DT position nicely. Talent wise, you'd have a hard time arguing that the Jets are not still stacked on the DL.
As to Curtis, I've had fans on this board tell me he was cooked after the 2002 season and after the 2003 season, while adding that LaMont Jordan is garbage as a backup. At present, Jordan has won a starting role complete with huge contract, and Martin is the current rushing title holder. At what point is your credibility so badly damaged that it doesn't even warrant a response?

The Raiders gave a lot of money to a guy who has yet to prove he's a number one back. With Martin still playing great, there was no way the Jets could match it.
