With Smoot Reportedly Gone, What Do We Do In The First Round?

Maybe with Smoot savings we could sign Plaxico with a 5M Bonus (give him a cap impact of 1.5M in 2005) and Hartwell to a 8M Bonus (cap impact of 2.25M) and draft PacMan Jones. I know I may be dreaming, but that would be the best of scenarios...

I had a feeling Smoot was history. That is ok. To answer your question... what we do is trade down a few spots and draft CB Carlos Rogers from Auburn.
I am pretty sure he will end up being just as good if not better than Jones and Rolle.

Give me Rolle. Then we have 2 big physical corners who allow GW to blitz from either corner spot. Smoot as hard as he tried was useless when GW wanted to use a corner Blitz.

I think our defense will still be great even without Smoot, don't bash me, but I thought Smoot was never really good and could never be a number 1 corner but thats my Opinion. I think Williams system made him look really good, but we will see.

I still think we will go with Mike Williams with our pick if he is there, but if he isn't I think we will trade down.

dunno , GW is by far a genius on defense and i trust what he does 100% so whatever he goes with i trust to be ok , maybe we draft a CB first maybe not but i think we should ....

It doesn't matter how many defensive players we lose this offseason they still can't be as bad as our offence. We need to do whatever it takes to make them better.

get williams or edwards, if not trade down and get heath miller. The only way we will win next year is if our offense is better not our defense. We need offensive weapons now. I wouldn't even mind trading down to get williams

The money set aside for Smoot is now freed up for other options: perhaps another lb or cb or even Plaxico. It's really pointless to speculate about the draft until we're done with free agency.

with all the good CB's off the market I think we are forced to go with Rolle or Pac man to get some youth at CB. Rolle would be fine with me now that Smoot is gone.

If Williams is there, take him. If not, trade down, get more picks. It is a deep draft and the Skins should be fine at CB. There is no overwhelming need to draft Pac-man or Rolle with the ninth pick.

Well I guess this pretty much ensures that the Vikes will go with a WR since plax isnt interested, and they just got a good defensive player. Chances are both M.Williams and B.Edwards will be gone. We will take a corner in the first I belive, we might trade down and get somebody like Carlos Rogers, or even trade down twice and get someone like Justin Miller. Or we could just stay at #9 and grab pac man or rolle. Who knows, this is so frustrating but what can ya do?

I agree are defensive will be great without Smoot. We survived last year when Chump left

MLB is okay. We have Barrow (who, if not hurt, would not have allowed Pierce on the field), Smith and Marshall.

All other defensive players return, including a healthy LaVar. So we need to draft a CB with our first pick (PacMan or Rolle) or trade down and get Rogers and another pick.

After that, we look at a DE or someone like Baas in the draft. And we pray that Gardner gets us a #2 pick.

Look for a pass rushing DE that can contribute right away. Causing the opponents QB to rush his throws will help the defense backs and may in part make up for loosing Smoot. The team was in need of a rush end with or without Smoot's departure.

If no suitable DE is available when the team picks then go for one of the top CB's and call it good for round one.
