Smoot has been with washington the past four seasons and has seen Snyder and company pay out huge bonus' to several players, some deserving, some not and when it's his turn Snyder decidedes to be financially responsible? Honestly, wouldn't you feel under appreciated? Imagine working at your job, you love it there and everything, but every year your boss hires people less qualified than you and pay them more, and another company offers you more to do the same thing, and your boss refuses to pay you what they offered, what would you do?

Folks lest be real, unlike the NBA, NHL, and MLB, NFL contracts aren't garunteed. If Smoot took a lower, back-loaded contract, and had a career ending injury, you think he would've seen any of that money? And what's even worse is you guys blamming Pierce, you guys could've easily signed him longterm for peanuts because he was a RFA last year.

Its not about that. I have no problem with him wanting to get paid. What you are not understanding is that most fans are upset cause he claimed to want to stay. Yet if the Sb was 10.8 like reported, and he stuck to his word he would still be in Burgandy and Gold.

I understand that, but if you were smoot, and you've seen Snyder pay outsiders more than they worth, wouldn't you be offended if you go to Snyder and say, come'on up the offer by 300k and he refuses?

Seriously, I'm not mad at them. Teams lose key players and sign key players, it happens. The whole Coles' situation is different though, that guy screwed us and for that I hate him only second to MARK BRUNNELL, which is saying alot.

Like I said I am not mad he left for more money. But to say he would sign with the Skins if it were within 2 million of what he was offered then turn around and sign for .3 million more. Now I just started a thread pertaining to a Rumor where I heard on comcast that he actually got 14 mil SB. I dont have a problem withthat.

I don't think Smoot went back on his word. Yes the SB money was similar but the early reports on the contract are that Vikings are offering an average of 3 million base salary for the first three years. The Vikings are offering a lot more total money for him than the Skins were.

Best of luck in Minnesota Freddy. Bring on Antrel Rolle.

I'm not mad at Smoot. It's not his fault that our team can't manage the salary cap. 31 other teams have to deal with the cap and apparently Snyder & Co. are just getting the clue that the salary cap pertains tothe Washington Redskins too. I wish Fred the best of luck and hope that maybe, just maybe this will finally wake Snyder up and show that just because you can pay 15 mil. dollar signing bonuses doesn't mean you should. It all catches up to you in the end.

Is there anyone one this board who wouldnt change jobs for hundreds of thousands of dollars? If you didnt, how would you explain that to your family when you didnt provide for them at your maximum capacity? Fred Smoot has responsibilities to other people besides us. Like it or not...

If he punked us for a mere 800K in S/B then he can go rot in hell.

If he got a much larger s/b as is the rumor du jour, then I can live with that; its a business after all.

Yeah really. I wonder if he talked to Latrell Spreewell and asked him if $10 million was enough to feed his family.

Smoot was always the one player, besides Arrington, who constantly was saying how he's a "real" Redskin, and a "true" team player. He went to the Vikings for a few more bucks than the Skins offered him. That's just greedy as hell if you ask me.

I really feel sorry for these guy's, do you know what you can do with 10 million bucks! Think about it?

Not mad one bit. Despite what he said at times, I don't think Smoot wanted to be with the Skins as much as manny here or even the team did. After awhile it became somewhat obvious, ( to me anyway), that he didnt' want to stay as much as he said. So. He's gone now. That business and life in the big leagues. Oh well. Good luck Fred.

Bottom Line: Ain't a person on this board who knows the details of Smoot's contract. Suppossedly a caller on WTEM got into Vinny Cerato tonight who said that $18 million of Smoot's contract with the Vikings is guaranteed. That's a lot of coin to ask a man to walk away from.

I don't blame Smoot in the slightest, and I bleed burgandy and gold. It's disappointing for me as a fan, but these guys play a "game" during which you can get parilyzed (Dennis Byrd, Mike Utley) at any time, any moment. These guys have got to look out for themselves.

I like Fred Smoot. Although I don't know him personally, he played hard for the Skins (through injury), and always seemed to give his best effort. It sucks that he's leaving, but I wish him the best of luck, unlike a certain gentleman headed to the gang green.

Ding!

I think that includes the coaches. I don't see why anyone is surprised that someone with an ego the size of Smooty Flakes decided to go for his own reasons. You can talk playoffs as much as you want, but this is Minnesota we're talking about. They fold more than a laundramat. He went for the money, same as Pierce. I can't help but think he worse out his welcome with the coaches over the last couple months, too. I guarantee they didn't even think twice about declining his "offer" to match.

Yes, I agree 100%. There is no reason anyone shold be mad at Smoot. I don't see how he went back on his word. It seems to me like he gave us every opportunity to sign him, we just couldn't match what Minnesota offered. Vinny pretty much said that too.

This was a money decision. Strictly business. It looks like he's getting almost a guaranteed contract for 3 years for the full amount that he signed-for. No way the Skins could match it.

I think loyalty to your family's fortunes override team loyalty.

I predict he'll be back after his stint in MN.

PS. I know why he's pushing for Gardner in a Vikes uniform...in practice, you only have to cover him 50% of the time.

I cannot be mad at Smoot. It looks SB is a little bigger then Skins have offered, but the guaranteed money for the first 3 years is there. This is what teams do when they want to sign free agents. Redkins did this to Jets two years ago. And Giants and Vikings just paid back. Redskins simply were not able to front-load Smoot's and Pierce's new contracts. As Gibbs said we could not throuw away are salary cap structure.

When Baley left our secondary were not worth. And I am sure Walt Harris will step up for Smoot.

Pierce only played because Barrow was injured. And Barrow is better then Pierce. If we keep Barrow, we will have even better D then last year. It also depends on injuries as well. Any player can get hurt and be out for a season easily. I just hope Redskins will not have as many injuries as last year. Go, Skins!
