How did the Vikings play when Moss was injured last year? Not so good. Tice won't last there much longer in any case.

Can winning and money be on the same playing field? Because it seems to me that its starting to be like that. Players want their cake and eat it to.

March-8th-2005, 10:35 PM
We need to realize that a lot of these players we drafted have not seen a winning season yet, what do you expect? All those coaches and system changes wore down the players.

This is the owner who gave serious thought to firing Tice prior to the playoffs to appease Moss and 'give the team a spark'?
Least thats what I heard.
Good luck Smoot. Don't get too fond of Coach Tice :)

Funny how the team that gives a free agent the best chance at "winning" always ends up also being the team which gave them the most money....Hmm...

I'm sorry but Smoot is completely full of ***** on this one.
The sole reason he left was money.
That's it.
Without Moss they have just about the same chance as winning with us, and their coaching staff is in much more limbo than ours.
He'd also be playing on a better defense with us.
This was purely a financial decision, I wish he wouldn't sit here and try to lie everyone and act like it was about winning.
The Vikings haven't won much with Randy Moss, and they sure as hell aren't going to go farther without him unless they make SERIOUS improvements on defense, as well as find someone who can adequetely at least attempt to fill his shoes.
We'll see what Burleson, Robinson, and Campbell are really made of now that they don't have Randy Moss around to draw coverage away from them, same goes for Culpepper.

The Vikings have a monster O line and will now probably run the ball a little more and their D is personell wise now really good. Not to mention they have a all pro QB.

What a crock of crap....didn't Bailey say the same thing when he got traded.
Whoever said that it's ironic that a player says this about the team who offered them the most money is so right on!
Guys...it's time to get over it with Smoot. He's now the enemy!

Isn't this the organization who not only once, but twice screwed up in the draft by not making their pick on time!
Talent wise, yes they are on paper looking pretty good, but hell the same was said about our teams over the last 5 years.

How is their D that much better personel wise than last season?
Their LB's still suck, Napoleon Harris is not the answer.
They had an All-Pro QB last year and they couldn't beat the Eagles, and I don't see them with the talent to do it this season, especially without Moss.
There's no denying the talent of Culpepper, but who is going to fill Moss' void? Which is about as big a void as there could possibly be in the NFL.
Not to mention that there is seriously turmoil within the organization with Mike Tice and his coaching staff.
His decision was completely based on $$$$
It's not like he went to the Pats, Colts, Eagles, Steelers.
Nobody goes to the Vikings in search of winning.

Also, lets not forget that the Vikings are for sale/sold/waiting for league approval, and we know how smooth of an operation that is.
Plus, they're one of the teams often mentioned as a candidate to be moved to LA.
So why would anyone want to go to...
a new team,
with a soon-to-be new owner,
with a coach on his last leg,
who has all but accused their fans of being racists because they have a black QB,
and a franchise that could be moving to LA within the next 5 years?
Oh yeah, to win.:jerkoff:
And now, a little Curtis Mayfield.

"I want to win!"
Well, we all know it was ALWAYS about the money to Smoot. Winning is optional.
We know this is true because, if Smoot REALLY wanted to win and truly believed it was a lost cause in Wash, he would not have given Wash a chance to match.
Ergo, Smoot lied about the trade being founded on "winning", that, by implication, "winning" wouldn't happen if he stayed in Wash. Yeah right, that's why you offered the skins an opportunity to match the money...
It was always about money to Smoot and always will be. He's more of a playa than a player.
Winning is always optional to one who has already won the money game. Just ask Smoot.
Bye bye, playa.

I'm happy for Smoot. He got more money (front loaded in 3 years) than he would have gotten here.
And he's a class guy. No shots at the organization, unlike some unnamed bad-footed terd.
I hope he talks up Gardner to a 2nd round pick.
If we didn't have free agency, Smoot would still be a Redskin. Free agency hurts a team like the Redskins, and helps small market teams. Being a Redskins fan, I hate it. If I lived in Green Bay, I guess I'd love it.
EDIT - I do think he could have done better than the Vikes, though. Turns out it was a tough market out there for CBs

They're defense should kinda come together. 2 Cover corners now. Napoleon Harris helps their lB core. The addition of DT Pat Williams beside their current pro bowl DT. Also they might get Jacksonville's starting safety. Their an improved unit defensively. Also on offense they'll miss Moss no doubt but their not crippled by any stretch. The thing is the have Cap space to upgrade at a lot of positions. This should off set the loss of Moss. Maybe even improve them.

who cares about the Vikes?
What is the plan for the skins? what the *ell are we doing to get better. yes, we are scoring points by discarding publicly perceived malcontents. yes, we are making up for past financial excesses to righten our ship.
I'm reserving judgment on all of this until we actually see what we have on the field. but, for the moment, we have lost our starting middle linebacker and corner. the D carried the team last season - we have done nothing to improve it - yet. it has, on paper, only gotten weaker.
what is going on at Redskin Park?
