View Full Version : Is This Cap Hell? OR What Redskins Contracts Are Up in 2006?

I can't help but wonder if "cap hell" came one year early. I'm curious as to who the Redskins have to resign next season. I'm wondering if the worst has already come in terms of "cap hell." If anyone can point me in the direction of a website that would let me know who is up for being resigned next year that would be great, thanks.

Cap hell is a team that looks to be returning 18 of 22 starters, losing two in trade and the other two by choice? May we have cap hell yearly.

Cap hell didn't come early. Coles wanted out early. We had to get rid of him, and Pierce and Smoot wanted too much money. With all the restructuring and the coles hit off the books in 2006, we won't have to worry about cap hell at all.

I don't mean it as a negative post. I'm wondering what is on the horizon for 2006 b/c I'm thinking the worst might have already happened. Again, I'm curious if anyone can point me to a website to let me know what Redskins have contracts up next year.

warpath has a site with the salary cap chart. I don't have the exact site right now, but I bet somebody else does. Trust me, worst just came and went. We'll be fine.

I think this is the worst "cap hell" will get for us. With Coles off the books, there will be big savings for next year.

That's a chart done a few weeks ago with no updates, additions or subtractions. You can postulate from there.

You are correct. 2005 was our brush with cap hell. I've been saying this since 2004 ended. 2006 will be a piece of cake compared to '05. We will be in a good position next year to add one or two really good free agents.

Interesting. That site has a $12M hit for LaVar Arrington next year. Does that include the $6.5 M bonus that is in dispute?

No, it includes a $6.5 M bonus that was always in his contract. That bonus will be converted to a signing bonus and pro-rated out at least another 3 years, depending on a new CBA agreement.
The disputed $6.5 was an additional 2006 roster bonus that Lavar imagined that the Redskins offered him.

We actually might have avoided the cap hell that was to be predicted in 2006 by trading Coles. He was due to count 6.8 million against the cap next year, and that won't happen now.
The number that jumps out at me is LaVar: a 12.141 million next year. That's about 15% of the cap for one player.

I can't help but wonder if Coles and his agent knew that he was going to be up against it next year in terms of his cap hit. He certainly did quite well for himself financially in this deal. Arrington looks like he will be restructured or up against it next season, and depending on this year they will either be looking to resign Ramsey or replace him.

Redskins are doing pretty well with salary cap this year. Coles brought a lot of disaster. redskins should have handle it better. If not for Coles, we could have either re-sign Smoot or Pirce or/and add a good FA defensive pass rusher.
I love LaVar, but hope he will loose the arbitration.
