After picking up Moss and still having Thrash as another solid return guy, what would we save (if any) by releasing Morton???

I'd like to know that also. He needs to go, unless it would hurt the team. Is this a matter of after June 1 thing? far as a cut is concerned?

This is dated, but still useful:

http://redskins.scout.com/3/cutsavings.html

The answer is that we save 540k by cutting him after June 1st, and the dead cap hit in 2006 is over a million less than it would have cost to keep him on the roster.

Don't we also have that guy Brown? He seemed to blow Morton away.

Yes, we still have Antonia Brown, and the combo of him and S Moss now make Morton MORE than expendable, imo.

cut him.

whoa, didnt know he would save us money in 2005 and 2006 if after June 1st. Let him go. I think however that Brown does not have a contract for the 2005 season yet, so we'll have to work on that.

I liked Morton. You guys are too hard on him.

Trade or cut Morton...if it saves us a half a mil then that is worth it...

At this point Morton isnt worth $500k nor a roster spot.

If we could somehow even trade him for a mid-late round pick then that would be a win. (IMHO)

I thought Brown signed a deal last year that went through the '05 season... ? Regardless, I think Moss, Brown and Morton will all be scrutinized in the pre-season. I don't think Morton will wind up being let go right after 6/1, if at all.

I actually don't see us keeping either Morton or Brown. Neither can be dual purpose and we need to make every roster spot count. Look at the guys we are using for things now:

Betts - Portis backup and KO returns
Moss - WR and P returns
Thrash - WR and both KO and P returns
Jacobs - WR and coverage units
Cartwright - RB and all ST

Brown and Morton represent guys who would only play on ST at this point. I would rather dump both and put McCants on the game day roster, personally.

Do you think the Jets would want to trade back for him? Maybe we could get Abraham for him

Seriously, I don't see Morton being around after June 1, 2005 as he really doesn't offer us depth at RB and is pretty one dimensional at this point (returner) and we need guys that fill up our roster that can be mulit-dimensional. That is what Gibbs has said and I agree. I believed that before we even signed Santana, so it is more apparent to me that a cut is likely.

Morton is gone, we have to many other good return guys playing for practically nothing. (thrash and brown). We also have Moss. There is no way I can see us keeping Chad.

I like Morton but with the resigning of Simon, and likely Cartwright, there is no room for him on the roster if we are going to use Brown.

I think Brown earned to right to come back this year, he is just more explosive.

I think Chad could've been better with less injuries to the team and more consistent STs overall, but what it was it was...

I would reallyhate to see him go back to the jets too...

Morton just doesn't have a role on this team anymore. And with our cap situation, we need every penny we can get. Cutting him after June 1st opened up about half a mil, which we can use for the rookies.

Antonio Brown will get cut if we draft a WR tho,....either way Morton needs to go...he blows

Yes...I believe that Morton will be cut after June 1st....perhaps we will wait until we have started training camp to cut him just to see how he is doing...remember he is probably still rehabbing and we can't cut an injured player without an injury settlement...not sure how those work but I think it applies here

morton is gone. Not enought production for what we paid him.

What are the chances we trade him back to the jets for Coles? :D

- I forgot about John Simon - he looked excellent last year in pre-season as a 3rd down back, PR and special teamer, so he would fill more roles then Morton would.

I thought we would take a cap hit cutting him this year, but if really can save a little this year and Simon is healthy...

OT: Kevin B. - you need to change your sig, we don't need to be looking at no stinkin Jets.

No kidding...he sure had a strong finish last year. I don't see keeping Morton. Never really thought he did much anyway.

We don't need the savings we would get from cutting Morton to sign our rookies. The cap savings could be used for our fund if we have an emergency or want to extend a guy in season, though. Further, that cap savings could be used to extend Moss now. Overall, I prefer to take him to TC.

We would save the agony of him turning into another coles, and whinning until he got more playing time, more touches, and runbacks. I SAY CUT HIM!

That was ONE game. I'm not sold on him yet.

Has Brown ever had a shot at playing WR? He is extremely fast and could stretch the field in the slot.
