I'm writing a paper for my english class and i just wondered what ya'll thought about the Juvenile Death Penalty. Although the Juvenile death penalty has been declared unconstitutional, the death penalty in general is still a big issue be it "kids" or adults. Things can be over turned. Personally i don't think it is right for the supreme court to deem that anyone under 18 who commits murder can not recieve the death penalty aas their sentence. Not all teenagers are the same, some are affected by anti-depressants or what have you, others are malice killers.
For this I piont to the golden rule, do unto others as you would have done unto you.
This is in nearly every religion...

I'm interested to see what ya'll think.

The kid that was 17 doing the sniper shooting I would have liked to see him get the death penalty and some teens (example girl who killed her parents) but young young kids no.

Some like the sniper should be put to death, but in a very painful way. How about watching every Whoopi Goldberg movie?

I think it is the pure stupidity to say that a person below a certain age should not be executed. If a jury can be trusted to determine guilt or innocence the death option should not be eliminated....of course I am just a crazy Texan.....We love executing people.

I'm not a fan of the death penalty because it can't be taken back. In my opinion, for a sentence that severe we need more than "beyond a reasonable doubt". However, as long as the death penalty is allowed I see no reason why it shouldn't be evaluated on a case by case basis regardless of age. Certainly there have been cases where people under 18 have proven they have no place in our society.
Sometimes I think people convicted of heinous crimes should have a choice: we can jail them for life, or they can choose to be put to death.

Is it pure stupidity to say someone under a certain age should not drive a car? No rule like this will be right 100% of the time, but if it's right, say 75% of the time, I think it's reasonable to decide that the costs of implementing a more complex driving test or of operating a massively expensive death penalty appeals process are not worth the marginal benefit of having the death penalty for a few teenagers.
The younger you are, the worse it is to have life without parole, the more likely you will be too immature to understand your actions, the more likely a jury will show you mercy, and the more likely others will feel sympathy for you and support your appeals. At some point, those things outweigh whatever we get from having the juvenile death penalty, and a lot of states have put that line at age 18.
It might not be right 100% of the time, but it's not pure stupidity.
