View Full Version : Possible trade down partners?

While I think that Williams or Edwards are the top targets of Gibbs, what happens if neither of them make it to the 9th pick? It seems as though any of the corners or DEs we'd be looking at could be had at a lower pick. It's starting to look like moving down a bit in the first round and gaining a pick might give us the chance to draft a solid corner and DE. In order to trade down though, of course you have to have a someone to trade with. Will there be anyone left at the 9th spot that would cause other teams to want to trade up to get him? Rolle maybe? And which teams might be more likely to be interested in moving up? I personally think that we have plenty of high first round draft picks, but we could use some solid second /third round types, but will we be able to find anyone to trade down with? Thanks for any comments.

Chiefs at number 15 would be a good trade partner. If Derrick Johnson slips to #9 KC could possibly be interested. They need defense(any shape or form). Give us their no#15, 2nd and a 5th for our No# 9. At number 15 well get a good DE/WR/CB. I am not on the Mike Williams bandwagon anymore. I much rather have Troy Williamson(He'll be a better pro than Mike). If we go D then I'm in favor of drafting a DE first and CB second. I like us chosing Merriman. If offense select Williamson at 15.

If the team does decide to trade down, I do hope it's to somewhere in the Mid-teens. Getting a 2nd round pick thrown in sounds about right (I'm not sure about the 5th round pick). I do think going WR (assuming Williamson is still their) and then CB/DE in the 2nd round would be ideal. In my opinion, there are probably 6 or 7 CB's that are all pretty close in talent. I don't think the 'Skins need to use #9 on a CB.

More News:
MERRIMAN'S STOCK RISING?
We're hearing rumblings that some teams are looking to trade into the top ten -- and as high as the top five -- of the draft for the purposes of selecting Maryland defensive end/linebacker Shawne Merriman.
Again, however, the assessment of Merriman (and any other player, for that matter) is an entirely subjective issue. In response to rumors that his stock is rising, we asked a personnel exec about Merriman, and received the following assessment:
"Interesting kid. [He] does some things you like on tape but [is] inconsistent. [He] had a poor position workout in this opinion. [He] looked out of shape, constantly winded, had to take a lot of breaks. [He[ ran and jumped well but positionally looked average, [with] no burst or quickness.
"Teams worked him as a 'backer and he looked stiff and too heavy. To me, you have to figure out where he’ll play. When you watch the tape, you think he’s a backer. During the workout, he looked like an end. . . . It won’t surprise me if someone falls in love because he’s a pretty girl, but I’d be scared to pick him because he has lapses on tape where he has very little production."

Give us their no#15, 2nd and a 5th for our No# 9.
I would do this in a second, but I'm not convinced KC would -- a 2nd AND a 5th? That's highway robbery. I'd be more than happy w/a 2nd. Don't tell KC that.

I think if we trade down we should definatly try to get a second along with the first. That way we can draft a DE and Matt Jones from Arkansas. I think he will be better than Williamson, Williams, and Edwards. The guy is a freak.

If we need a good wr bad enough, we might trade up with the titans. Lord knows they have tons of wholes and could get either of the good cbs at the 9 position. But the only way were going to get Mike williams is to get in front of the vikings. If not we should trade down and get either troy williamson or heath miller. Both will help our offense tremendously. and we could pick up an extra pick.
We dont need defense.

Aren't the chiefs notoriously stingy with their picks?

Last night on Sportcenter, Mortensen was saying that Matt Jones may even sneak into the bottom of the first. I'd rather have that guy than any of the wr's. 6'5" 250 lbs. and runs a 4.37?! Forget about it.

BTW, I meant "forget about it" like Johnny Depp says in Donnie Brasco, not like "forget it, let's not draft him".

If so, then why did he lose to Wiliamson in the college skills challenge ... twice?

MAAtopdog...no way in hell does williamson has a better career then williams...williams can contribute RIGHT AWAY..i think williams will be a top 10 WR next couple of years...maybe even top 5...trust me, Williams at #9 is a dream, but trading down seems like hte best thing to do right now, a 2nd round pick would help us out TREMENDOUSLY if we can get one of those

I am not sure if this has been posted yet but it would be a HUGE stretch for KC to give us even their 2nd let alone their 2nd and a 5th in the scenario you outlined. Just not going to happen.
I don't want Williamson. I think he will never amount to more than a #2 WR if that. The video clip that I saw on him was mediocre. I walked away really unimpressed. Total 180 from what I felt after watching the Clayton video. Troy cannnot create anything, has zero YAC ability, cannot break tackles, and he is painfully average.
I cannot tell you how much I disagree with you regarding who will be a better pro at WR. Mike Williams has the ability to take over games and dominate. He will be a star and is the kind of player that opposing teams gameplan against.
Now, a possible trade partner could be Houston at #13. They desperately want to solidify their LT of the future and want the best LT in the class in Alex Barron. Detroit at #10 is considering him as well. Houston could trade up to #9 and incude their 3rd rounder in the trade. It works out nicely for everyone.
