Lucas Scraps Star Wars Swansong
World Entertainment News Network
GEORGE LUCAS has finally ruled out a seventh STAR WARS movie, because he doesn't want to spend his final years on earth working on a pensioners-in-space project.
The movie mogul had been considering one final Star Wars project with his original cast, which he would have started after wrapping up the current trilogy of prequels.
He says, "I thought it might be fun to bring CARRIE (FISHER) and MARK (HAMMILL) and HARRISON (FORD) back when they're 65 and make another movie with them.
"But I'm going to be over 60 when I finish this and it takes 10 years to do a trilogy. I'm not going to spend my last 10 years doing Star Wars."

This is a blessing. Enough damage was done with the prequels, lets not ruin our fond memories of the original cast with a new movie where they're 2nd fiddle to CGI effects.

Good, don't ruin the original cast's good name.

I hope he changes his mind. :(

Not going to happen.
Chewbacca's really let himself go ... and isn't on speaking terms with Han.

I don't care what the haters say--Revenge of the Sith is as good as anything in the Star Wars series.
The prequels were Lucas's first time directing since the original Star Wars 22 years earlier, so there was bound to be some rust...but it ended on a great note.
I'd love to see an episode seven, but only if it's done now. I don't want him to stop directing for another 20 years only to come back for a one-shot sequel which will end up being a disappointment.

Revenge of the Sith blows and so did Episodes 1, 2, and 6. Lord of the Rings smashes Star Wars so hard.

Oh, here we go. I admit, Episodes 1 and 2 weren't all that good, but 4 episode 3 was good, episode 4 was very good, episode 5 was a masterpiece and episode 6 was very good. As for The Lord of the Ring trilogy, I thought it was utter boring.
If there was to ever be another Star Wars trilogy, I would hope it would be The Knights of the Old Republic. I know little about it, but everyone says it's a very good story.

Here could be another reason this was being scrapped..this article is about 2 years old keep that in mind.

Without him Star Wars is like a Batman movie without ever seeing anyone wearing the cape and cowl.

Seriously, they still could have done it and it would have still made a buttload of money even without Han Solo. That type of character could have been killed off easily off screen.

It's not the same without him though (IMO)...I mean one of the things that I missed in the prequels was that cool/cynical voice that Han Solo gave to the original trilogy. He gave all of this melodrama a smirk for lack of a better term.
Obi-Wan had a few good one-liners in Episode II but it just wasn't the same.
I do agree though that it would've made money.

Maybe Harrison Ford had seen what Lucas did to Indiana Jones and didn't want to see Han Solo get the same treatment.

Great point. I take back everything that I said about Star Wars being good.

Revenge was good, but it had potential to be so much better. For instance, I would have liked to see more of the attack on the jedi at the temple. Also, Yoda vs Palpatine could have been more epic.

My gosh.....talk about milking a project to death! (yawn) Yes, I realize the whole Star Wars thing made George Lucas richer than rich, but am I the only person who is bored to tears with all of the endless parade of Star Wars movies? I stopped watching years ago, and haven't seen the past 3 films. And you know what? I don't care! I know in my heart that I really didn't miss a thing......Lucas should think about doing another movie like "American Grafitti." (

You have to be joking. Ford mailed it in so badly in The Muppets Save Endor it is pathetic. He destroyed the Solo character with his performance in that movie.

There may be some truth to that. It's no secret that Ford thought Solo should have sacrificed himself for Leia and Luke and he didn't appreciate the "teddy bear" ending.
