View Full Version : Mel Kiper's take on the Redskins draft

i was listening to Mike and Mike early this morning in which they had Mel Kiper on to give his take on the draft.. Eventually, they got around to talk about the Skin's 25th pick. Of course Golic insisted that they will likely go after Campbell for that pick, in which Kiper (strongly) disagreed. Kiper basically implied that he's been hearing so much hoopla (since Wednesday) about how the Skins will go after Campbell at 25, but he doesn't know why. And that why would Washington go after a Rookie, when they already have an up and coming 4yr vet. in Ramsey? He also implied that it would be absolutely backwards on the part of the organization to go after a Rookie QB knowing that they need to win now. ..... Personally, it was refreshing to know that some one actually knew what they were talking about.

I heard that as well too. He said that this is all a smoke screen. They also asked if Aaron Rodgers falls to 9, would they take him, he said NO WAY. Pretty much saying, these guys all love drama, but atleast make sense with the drama.

You mean someone was there with Mel Kiper... ;)

I kid, I kid.

Seriously, though, the 'Skins have been throwing too many bombs out there, in one way or another, for anything we have heard so far to be true. The only thing we know that's true is we have two 1st round pics. Otherwise, I wouldn't be shocked of what winds up happening is either so simple that it's right in front of us or not one of the situations mentioned even comes close.

We're not getting a QB or Edwards with our first round picks. I'm about 99.99999999% sure of that.

Mel Kiper the voice of reason? In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king...

The skins are certainly not letting anyone have a clue as to what they want to do this weekend. Everything and everyone is a possiblity.

I know that it's popular to take swipes at Kiper, and granted he is a strange dude, but I have to respect his dedication and objectivity. I don't follow college ball and there are no two scouts who agree on any list of players, but Kipper does try his best to be informative and most of all I've never heard him bash the Redskins in any way. Most of the national NFL press takes cheap shots at us any chance they get while Kiper truly seems to just want to evaluate players. He may not agree with what many teams do in the draft which is to be expected, but he doesn't seem to have an agenda.

After watching that draft special i have alot more respect for kiper. He was the only sane person on that show. Having mike williams fall to the cowboys come on. Not only did he fall past us he also fell past the kansas city cheifs. Thats just stupid. Anyway he was the only smart enough to realize that we dont need a qb and that we need a receiver. Everyone else said the lenny fatsos word is gospel about us taking campbell, even though it makes no sense. Kiper has always been his own man and not a stupid ****ing sheep like everyone else on espn. i respect that alot.

Kiper is a good man. He found a nitch as a draft expert before everyone else and is now well paid for it. He doesn't have to try and entertain the public with bull**** articles or rumors he made up.

I think the Skins are playing the "misdirection" game to a T :D

Mel is a bit of a goof ball, but he throws a good analysis now and then ;)

Surrounded by all of that mediocrity, Kiper looks like a genius.

I agree with sentiments about his professionalism. The rest of ESPN is a joke when it comes to the draft.

I agree, I have actually become a fan of Kiper through this circus.

He works with ESPN but in no way has he just climbed on the bandwagon because of Lenny P. Its refreshing to not see everyone saying the same stupid thing because it is nothing other than opinion, nobody has fact right now.

When all these clowns chatter the exact same thing it just shows that none of them have an actual opinion on the deal and that they are just talking puppets.

I also hear Mel and Vinny are really good friends, so I believe in what Kiper says.

And he's a 'closet' Skins fan to boot.

I was listening to the draft show last night and Mort was saying how there was a huge internal investigation going on inside the Redskins organization and that proves that we are going after Jason Campbell with the 25th pick.......look these supposed draft experts rarely get things right even half the time....

Yes it's quite possible that the Skins are successfully employing the smokescreen maneuver. Also quite possible that Larry, Moe & Curly -- err...Danny, Joe & Vinny -- are bumbling the Draft just like they bumbled free-agency. Time will tell.

Sure would be nice to have Smoot, Pierce and (albeit an unhappy) Coles in the fold. Then we could get a top WR at #9 (Williamson? Williams?) and still have some picks left.

If pick #25 is used on Campbell, tag the toe, cuz the ship is sinking.

Here's to hoping we get Pac-Man at #9 and and either Matt Jones, Roddy White, Heath Miller or Clayton at #25.

I'm sure when there's no further news about the 'internal investigation' this will be considered absolute proof of it's existence.

Well, with all the speculation, I think its settled.

We're drafting Merriman.

It will lead to the "Redskins screw it up again" chant.

IMHO.

Oh lord, could you imagine someone with Kiper's hair and Vinny's eyes? Be afraid.

Those in the media can't see what the Redskins are doing. They keep saying how the Redskin FO didn't cover their tracks and let their intentions get out.

While they are laughing, the FO is laughing harder. I believe we're using them to set things up for ourselves. All we're doing
is throwing other teams off track from what we want to do.

Mort last night was talking this BS how we've launched an investigation into how the info got out. Come on, Mort,
think about this for a minute.

I wouldn't all be surprised to see Braylon Edwards a Redskin
tomorrow.

you know, with all of this going on about this 25th pick, i surely hope that this will motivate Ramsey even more, because according to these Jack *****es in the media, especially (ESPN), he is mediocre at best.. you have to wonder - do they actually look at these games? did they see his potential in his first 2 yrs as a young, tough, smart QB even while getting killed under SOS's friggin' no-protection offense... the answer has to be no.. did they notice the last 6 games of the regular season where his completion % was around 65%, and nearly lead us to wins against the Eagles and Pittsburgh.., once again you have to say no.. its apparent that many in the media are just a bunch of banwagoners, who i'd bet if we went to the playoffs with Ramsey throwing for around 2,700 yrds, 25td's, 11int's, they will be all over his nutsack.. most of these guys are a joke , plan and simple!

I have to agree with Redman.

I don't mean an 'exclusive' fan. I just mean historically I have heard him say many kind things about the Skins, especially when others are piling on. Could just be his objectivity shining through as compared to the others complete lack of it.

To return to the ESPN show again last night, he had both my favorite players, Williams and Merriman going to Dallas...Not gonna happen. But the 'supposed' premise of the show was how would the organizations draft, not how would the analysts draft.
Kiper still has Williams #1 on his board...but his board is strictly BPA. I happen to agree with him on this one.

Except that he was right about that one too. :)

As much as people make fun of him for having a career made out of an insignificant event like the NFL Draft, I do have to say that his professionalism and the seriousness he takes his job is impressive. He's not really a guy who seems to seek the limelight as much as one would think. He has his opinions, and he sticks to them. If he doesn't like a pick, he'll say so.
