For those that care, they had the opening ceremony of the new Capitals practice rink. It is going to be located above the Ballston mall on the roof (I believe). I was at the ceremony on Saturday. I haven't seen the rink yet, but not only will the Caps practice there, but it will be a public rink as well. Anyone with more info., please feel free to chime in.

That's great that they have a new practice facility. But what good will it do them if they don't have any games.

I live near Piney Orchard, unfortunately Caps training camp is somewhat boring. Nothing like a football camp.

I was at ballston mall today and got a little peak of it. I think thats a great place for it and a great way for the caps to get in good with the fans. I assume they are going to build a roof on it correct? i looked up through the parking garage and and saw what looked to be the creation of stands.

I'll definitely check it out. In other news, Ballston Mall is the worst mall in the history of the world. It could be so nice, but you can tell it is run by retards.

While I know someone is going to get offended by the "retards" comment, I couldn't agree more. It is a terrible mall, and has NOTHING on Tysons Corner. It's pretty pathetic given its location.
As many of you have probably seen, you can see the support structuring in the garage. I haven't taken a good look lately from the outside. Is the main structure up yet?

It will be open in about 3 weeks.

3 weeks? where is that info coming from? From what I understand the Caps training camp this season is being split between Hershey, PA, the Verizon Center and out in Ashburn, VA. From what I have heard, it is scheduled to be open in time for the regular season...for the NHL.

Yeah, I looked up at it yesterday, and while it looks HUGE, you can still see the "Tyvek" on the sides of it. It doesn't look like it is 3 weeks away.

On the Caps Report podcast from yesterday, they said the rink should be done in October. With its likely opening when the Caps return from their west coast swing that month.
