these two players from what I have seen are merely along for the ride this season, at least early on. Daniels is an offensive liability and has shown none of the defensive prowess which caused the team to sign him in the offseason. he has all the markings so far of a guy that managed to have a career year in his contract year of 2004 and the Wizards bought at the market peak.
Etan Thomas was given a $36 million contract by the team and yet has not shown any noticeable improvement even when healthy. In my mind with the numbers you get from Haywood, and the fact Jamison is a SF playing PF, that in order to survive you need Thomas to be contributing 10-11 points a game and 8-9 boards coming in at C/PF.
Right now, the Wizards are getting bupkis from Thomas. He is averaging Kwame Brown numbers.
That's not going to cut it in an Eastern Conference where to repeat the 45 win season of 2004 the Wizards have to be a better team. That means better defense and better rebounding.
In regards to the 'fire Eddie Jordan' post, I can see the frustration but can't understand where if the team had another coach (with these frontcourt players) that the Wizards would be demonstrably better.
It is clear to me that Etan Thomas at 27 is destined to be an average bench player here, he isn't going to ascend to being a valuable sixth man coming in to spark this team.
Haywood and Jamison aren't enough to win the rebounding and interior defense that is required to beat a Miami or Detroit.
Daniels and Hayes started slowly and didn't show the defensive improvement the club was hoping for in the backcourt and at the small forward spot. Now Hayes is down again with the same patella tendon injury. Don't count on his return any time soon.
There are simply too many spare parts on this team.
A case can be made that Arenas, Jamison and Butler could form the core for a winning club. But there is so much more that has to go into the mix and the current complementary cast does not appear up to the challenge.
In fact you are unlikely to get the defense and rebounding without having to make a trade of some consequence. And that will mean moving a package of players including one of the top 3.
