He got a small taste of what faster, more athletic player are going to do to him at the next level. He better hope he goes to a team that he he's not the go to guy.

That award should be changed to "AP Player of the Regular Season"
Why they hand it out before the end of the season is beyond me.

He should be lucky he won the award considering he played so well in the tournament, i think that is what two years in a row he has failed to deliver in the big dance.

"INDIANAPOLIS -- J.J. Redick, whose 3-point shooting led Duke to a No. 1 ranking for most of the season, was selected the national player of the year by The Associated Press on Friday.
The senior guard was second in the nation in scoring this season, capping his career as the Atlantic Coast Conference's all-time leading scorer and Division I's most prolific 3-point shooter"

he's not going to be the go to guy for any team, nor will he be expected to be. He will be a solid guy off the bench to come in and make jumpers. The NBA lacks good/pure shooters and that's what he will add to any team.

The NBA lacks good/pure shooters and that's all he will add to any team.
Fixed. ;)

Don't know what league you've been watching. The perception that NBA players can't shoot is based on
a) The USA men's bball team's failures (which were primarily due to the horrific rosters they've been sending that aren't at all tailored towards international rules), and
b) The horribly wrong assumption that they don't play defense in the NBA anymore. It's harder to get a shot in the NBA now than it ever has been. JJ's going to find that out. The hard way. (God help him when Shawn Marion, Kobe Bryant, Bruce Bowen, Tayshaun Prince, or any other number of defensive stoppers decide to lock him down...)

Ever heard of guys like Steve Kerr, Dale Ellis, Reggie Miller? Seems to me they made a pretty good career in the NBA out of being able to shoot and pretty much nothing else.

If you're even remotely comparing Reddick to Reggie Miller, I doubt you ever saw Reggie play in his prime. (Not to mention that if you were giving the two players clutch ratings, Reggie's would be about a 98 and Redick's would be about a 65)

A 65 would be quite generous for JJ.

I was comparing the type of player that JJ can be in the NBA. I am quite aware of the clutch performances Miller had in the NBA. The point is JJ has the chance to be a similar type of player to the ones that I mentioned - great shooters who werent as well known for anything else, like defense. Bottom line is he has yet to play a game in the NBA so you have to give him a chance. Last I checked, Miller never won a NCAA championsip in college

What JJ doesn't have in comparison to what Reggie DID have is a list that is too long for our purposes.

Redick will be a role player in the NBA, which is good. The NBA needs players that fill roles, not everyone can be Kobe Bryant or AI. JJ would do well to go to a team with a certified superstar that must be doubled, which will open JJ up for the spot up jumper, which he has shown he can knock down. Especially either a big man that can pass or a dribble/drive kinda guy like LeBron.
JJ has shown the ability to score from the outside, and that'll carry over to the NBA. And after all, scoring is ultimately what the game is about. Unfortunately, JJ doesnt do much else well. He'll come off the bench b/c he's a defensive liability, he doesnt rebound, and he's not much of a passer.
Basically he will follow the Duke mold. Great in college, mediocre to decent in the pros. :2cents:

Holy crap, for once you and I see eye to eye on something Blitz :applause: . I pretty much agree with everything you said here, which is basically the exact same thing I was saying to the other poster in this thread.

I was basically refuting the assumption that "The NBA lacks good/pure shooters and that's what he will add to any team." The NBA has plenty of good/pure shooters, and most of them can get their shot off and in with pressure in their face, unlike what we've seen out of Redick when he's been defended by a more athletic guy.
I guess he can come off the bench and hit wide open shots when he gets them, filling a role for someone. But to say that the NBA lacks shooters is like saying that the NFL lacks possession receivers.

Tons of good shooters in the NBA. I dont know where that theory started.
Kobe, Peja, Novitzki, Bibby, Billips, Ben Gordon, Arenas, Jamison, Nash, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Sheed Wallace, those are just the big scorers that do damage from 3. Im sure tons of teams have a guy like JJ that will be the stereotypical 3 point shooting white boy in the John Paxson, Steve Kerr, Mark Price mold.

Exactly. :applause: If he (Reddick) goes to a team like Phoenix where he can spot up and shoot he'll be fine. If he's asked to be the go to guy the team is trouble.
