Got this excerpt from the "truth and rumors" section of si.com

ACC commissioner John Swofford said the league will support legislation to expand the NCAA Tournament and would also push to strengthen the qualifications of those sitting on the tournament selection committee. The league managed just four tournament berths in the 65-team field. Swofford said the league's leaders also expressed concern over the makeup of the 10-member selection committee, which included seven representative from mid-major or small conferences, some of which lacked basketball backgrounds.

Anybody else not a fan of this idea? Hmmm... let's take the most successful and entertaining sports tournament we have today and change it. I agree the committee might need some tweaking, however after small Mason made the final four noise, how could one argue against the small and mid-majors? Notice I didn't take a swipe at Swofford and the fact that his big powerful league only managed 4 selections? Oh wait, I just did. :D

Expanding the Tournament is a horrible idea.

The only way to do it would be to add even more play-in games (unless you were proposing a 128 team Tournament), and the small schools like Holy Cross taking their best shot against powerhouses like Kentucky are what makes the tournament so appealing.

That and gambling. :D

I agree..... horrible idea. Letting 5-6 more in wouldn't be the end of the world, but doubling the thing would make it similar to a playoff spot in hockey or the NBA... easy and somewhat meaningless.

The ONLY expansion i wouldnt have a problem with is adding 3 more play-in games. So each 1 seed gets to play the winner of a play in. I do agree that the power conferences should make up AT LEAST half of the selection committee.

Thats it. ACC had a tough one, but its just one year. No sense in tinkering with the greatest sporting event of the year.

The Big Dance has been expanded many times over the years. But enough is enough.

64 teams is plenty. Actually, it's probably more than enough. To expand further would be stupid.

Anybody who thinks we need more teams should reflect on the fact that no #16 has ever beaten a #1, and that upsets of #2s by #15s are incredible rare. Adding even more teams worse than the current crop of #16s would be purely about money and would cheapen the entire Tournament.
