Looks like Navy has a guarantee to play in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, as long as they win 6 games and aren't BCS-eligible. They'll play a local rival, too -- the #3 out of the ACC.

A guaranteed East Coast bowl, within easy driving distance, against a local team -- a pretty damned good fallback if you don't make the BCS.

Hmm, aren't they taking the spot of the #3 Big East in that one?

Eeeeeeeeeenteresting.

First of many dominos.

Actually, I thought the language said Navy OR the Big East #3.

Does it actually gaurentee the bowl to them? What ACC spot fills this bowl? #4 or #5???

ACC 4 goes to the tire bowl

So basically you guys could be shut out of 2 of your 3 top bowls, if the bowl officials decide to pick ND (Gator) and Tire (Navy)

Shut out of those bowl games, shut of those revenues, and down the drain the BEFC continues to go

A 10-1 WVU team would not be shut out of either of those bowls. In fact, if WVU starts top 5, and they lose only to Louisville, I suspect they will still be in the running for a BCS at large berth - despite the apparent weak schedule.

Absolutley correct there sir

Point being BE revenues go down if the Gator Bowl and Tire bowls do not pick Big East teams

I know you understand that part!

I believe the agreement with ND (and I would suspect Navy) require them to share the revenues, should that happen - but I am not 100% positive on it - although I do remember reading that somewhere.

eidt...

I just read up some more on it, according to this article (http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/sports/14699442.htm?source=rss&channel=charlotte_sports) the deal with Navy allows for the Tire Bowl to select Navy only 1 out of every 4 years instead of the BE #3.

You are REALLY making WAY too big a deal out of revenues.

If Navy is bowl eligible, they are guaranteed the Meineke slot.

If they are BCS eligible or bowl-ineligible, then the spot opens to the Big East.

ACC #3 is guaranteed the other spot, so the only way the Big East plays in the Meineke bowl is if:

1) Navy wins <6 games; or
2) Navy goes to the BCS.

But anyway, how nice would it be to have a guaranteed local bowl against a local opponent as your fallback option? Granted, it shuts you out of the bigger non-BCS bowls. But failing the BCS, it's still not bad.

Thanks for the clarification. I posted a link that says they (the Tire Bowl) can only replace the #3 BE team w/Navy 1 time every 4 years.

That is correct: the Navy deal is for this year only.
