The NBA announced today that Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month and Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December. This marks the first career monthly honors for both Jordan and Arenas.

“This was a complete team effort,” said Jordan. “We had a very good month, which was highlighted by our West Coast swing. We competed successfully against some of the better teams in the NBA, and had some outstanding individual performances from our guys.”

“I appreciate the honor from the NBA,” said Arenas. “December was an outstanding month for our team. We played extremely well and won some big road games. We were able to move into first place and create some excitement and momentum heading into the New Year.”

As Bob Knight recently said coaching records and awards are really team records and awards. I was expecting Gil to get the player of the month award but Jordan getting it for coaching as well is a nice little cherry on top. It's good to be a Wiz fan.

Nice, I figured Gilbert would get player of the month. Hadn't thought of EJ for coach of the month though :cheers:

Congrats WIZ. It's nice for EJ & Gil to get some national recognition. They deserve this attention. Let's keep winning and more accolades will follow. GO WIZ!!!

I was just thinking the same thing. Normally, the Skins give this city the best chance for a national championship. While I'm not saying the Wizards are going all the way, at least they've gotten it together and they're giving us some exciting, winning basketball. It's amazing what happens when you get a real general manager in your front office! :rolleyes:
