miragv shut up please.
lavar i am a gmu basketball fan. i remember seeing the caa championship between the gmu team (with george evans and jason miskiri) and old dominion in the johnson center on a big screen.
that team was awesome. a couple years later they almost defeated maryland in the first round. they were like up the whole game till the last minute. i had divided loyalties but i went with my favorite team, gmu.

UNCW alum here. Heading to the tournament next week. THink you guys will win the CAAs this year?
method man
February-28th-2004, 09:04 PM
hopefully. we are sort of inconsistent but we got a good shot at winning it. no dominating teams this year. UNCW was scary with blizzard but now he gone

February-28th-2004, 09:24 PM
definitely missing Blizzard. CAA seems like a crapshoot this year. I was in Nashville when chump Drew Nicholas hit the last lucky shot of this non-existent post Maryland career.. Just a little bitter.

Yeah, this year's tourny is bascially up in the air. Anyone has a shot to win it. However, VCU definately has the adavnatage being the #1 seed and havnig the tourny in Richmond. Hopefully GMU can pull of some type of miracle and make it to the NCAAs. That would be nice.
Miragv, don't be mad because UMD lost yesterday to Wake and their chances to make the tourny are slipping.

Hey mir,
Calm yourself,
Maryland is on it's way down,
while GMU is on its way up, it's OK.

Haha, I thought that would not happen for awhile, but it's a reality now. That's some good stuff.

i was just kidding guys. but it doesnt matter. MD is a real bball program, dont even compare GMU to it. forget next year, i think we can make it this year.
The X-Factor
February-29th-2004, 06:01 PM
Obvioulsy you guys have an edge because you play in the ACC, but we are no joke either. We actually led you guys at half this season. And I don't know about whether or not they will make it this yeah. Two games left, NCST is tough and UVA could pull off an upset. You better pray.
method man
February-29th-2004, 06:08 PM
mirag wut makes you say that GMU is not a real bball program? we hav made it to the NCAAs twice. compare GMU to the citadel for example which has never made it
method man
February-29th-2004, 06:10 PM
i am even willing to go out on a limb and say that george evans was better lonny baxter. after all, evans was a 3-time CAA player of the year. the only other player that wasa 3-time CAA player of the year was david robinson. when the two teams played in the NCAAs evans dominated baxter.
The X-Factor
February-29th-2004, 06:38 PM
If Evans had a better supporting cast, we would have beat MD also.

March-1st-2004, 09:42 PM
correction: gmu has actually made it 3 times.
jim larranaga is a good coach. glad to see other gmu fans here. lavar, u are right. i think we may have taken out maryland if we still had at least miskiri when we played them.
The X-Factor
March-2nd-2004, 12:50 AM
I'm not a real big fan of Larranaga. His scramble defense is horrible, it just creates mismatches favoring the opposing team. And lately he has not been playing our best player, Mark Davis. There is no reason why he should be on the bench. This is crucnh time and we need his contribution.

you guys are ridiculous, i have respect for GMU, i have a friend that goes there and they are local to me, but come on. GMU is nothing compared to MD. i dont care what conference they play in. and one other thing, Lonny won a NCAA championship and he has played in the NBA, where is your boy right now?
The X-Factor
March-2nd-2004, 01:42 PM
George Evans was 30 when he played for Mason. So he was way too old to go to the NBA. I read one story that said many GMs would have taken him if he was younger.
miragv
March-5th-2004, 07:37 PM
dont compare lonny to george. thats all im trying to say.
The X-Factor
March-6th-2004, 12:42 AM
George was the better player, it was the age factor that keep him from the NBA. What has Lonny done since UMD? Practically nothing. Now he's back with the Wiz who are trying to re-unite the national champ team. In a few years he will be out of the NBA and playing in europe.

As a person who goes to GMU, I personally am a gmu bball fan only b/c I go there and on top of that I hate the terps they just recruit better and mason is a smaller college. But on that not Mason is a weak team in the fact that we are in a weak division b/c we play teams like delaware, jmu, drexal, uncw, etc. So in all reality mason is either up then they just go back down vice versa.........

Big game todat at UNC Wilmington. We should be able to win it, but who knows what could happen. They are shopwing the championship game on ESPN tomorrow, hopefully Mason will make it that far.

GMU is riding on emotion especially after jai lewis got into a fight with the delaware assistant. unc wilmington is very beatable, nothing like last year.

VCU=2004 CAA regular and tournament champs!! Book it!
Yes, I am a VCU student.:) And to miragv, what makes md so great? They had to pull a hail mary out of their butt to beat the caa champs last year. md is nothing special this year. Go RAMS:cheers:

you guys are just stupid. tonight MD became a lock to be in the NCAA tournament, keep in mind that this was a 'retooling' year. Gary Williams is an amazing coach and Maryland is an amazing program, 11 straight years we have been in the NCAA tournament. there is no way you can bash MD cuz your crappy schools dont compare to us. i didnt want to be this mean before but MD is one of the top Bball schools in the nation.

Not so fast kid. Jai Lewis didn't play as much as he usually did tonight and that means he'll be well rested for tomorrow's showdown. We still have the senior Mark Davis, who i think will have a huge game tomorrow. it should be a good one, I'll be there to witness it first hand.
GO GMU!

Just cause the CAA isn't a big conference doesn't mean the talent isn't there. Again case in point. As much as I hate them UNCW beat indiana 2 years ago and almost made it to sweet 16 and md needed a miracle to beat them last year. ACC is obviously a better conference top to bottom but we got some teams that can compete here. Oh and Lavarleap, nothing personal man. If the skins make the playoffs this year I'll be touting our future championship just the same. What does a fan have if not optimism. :) On a side not, wish I could go but I have a 7-9:40 class tonight and I can't miss due to a presentation I have to give. At least I can go if VCU gets back to the championship next year, although I won't be a student.

ESPN just signed a contract with the CAA. So next year we will get to see our teams square off in primetime. The GMU - VCU rivalry could become huge.

game wuz so close. gmu loses by a measly 1 point and could have won in the last 10 seconds. wut gmu needs is to find a darren tarver without the heart problems or find another george evans. come on larannaga get us a kickass recruit!

miragv,
by the way throughout laranaga's tenure, when gmu goes up against a big school we never get blown out. we are always competitive.

Damn I can't believe we lost by one point. That really pisses me off. Why the hell did they give it to Lewis with 2 secs left?? What were they thinking? I gotta give it up to VCU, they played damned well. Hopefully you guys make an impact in the touney.

After watching the game tonight against VCU on TV and going to the actual game against UNC Wilmington, GMU can't rebound for ****..................What a waste of a Toby Skinn three pointer at the end, and per say that Jai Lewis needs to frickin box out and post up more...........
The X-Factor
March-9th-2004, 01:51 AM
Yeah tell me about it, I was sitting there watching as VCU got offensive rebound after offensive rebound. No one on GMU was going after the ball it was pathetic. Even worse was the free throw shooting. It was absolutely horrible. We basically gave them the game.

yea with a couple recruits (a 20 ppg scoring guard and a decent center[prob can get one from europle]) we will be as good as anyone else in the CAA. lewis and skinn form a solid base to continue on into next year.
The X-Factor
March-9th-2004, 08:56 PM
Definately, next year we should be the favorites (like we were this year) to win the CAA. VCU's two stars are graduating and no other team really is that big of a threat.

Now that UMD is out of the touney, I thought I should bump up this thread again.
GMU vs. Oregon tonight at 11:30 on ESPN2.
Should be a good one, but Luke Jackson will be hard to stop.
