HAHAAHAHAHA

I'm going nuts.

Alexander Ovechkin is the heads and shoulders best prospect in the upcoming draft. big strong left winger, some say one of the best russian prospects in 20 years.

14.2% chance for the Caps to win, and somehow they pulled it off!

New From The Post
Caps Get First Overall Pick in Amateur Draft

One day after the Washington Capitals cleared out their lockers following the team's worst finish in 26 years, the franchise received some unexpected good news: It won the NHL's annual draft lottery and will be awarded the No. 1 overall selection in June's amateur draft.

By finishing 28th in the 30-team league, the Capitals had the third greatest likelihood of winning the lottery, at 14.2 percent, behind the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks, the league's worst and second worst teams, respectively.

With the No. 1 pick, Washington could select immensely talented Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin, who is considered the top prospect and has drawn comparisons to the Atlanta Thrasher's Ilya Kovalchuk, the No. 1 pick in 2001. Scouts say Ovechkin could play on a team's top line immediately.

Under the lottery system, only the bottom five teams could win, because no team could advance more than four spots. The Penguins will pick second and the Blackhawks will pick third at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C., home of the Carolina Hurricanes, June 26-27.

Washington has selected first overall twice in its 30-year history, choosing defenseman Greg Joly prior to the Capitals inaugural season in 1974, and defenseman Rick Green in 1976.

The drawing was conducted at the league offices in New York.

Yeah, I'm here.

It's ok.

Not what I expected. But I'll 'hopefully' make it through. Working on a 10 page paper currently.

You have to give Leonsis credit - he did exactly the right thing this season. When the NHL comes back, the Caps are going to be primed to rebuild quickly, with basically a free year of off-season training for all the young guys.

Yeah Crosby is the real prize..that kid is sick! Ovechkin is going to be the ***** for this organization though, Im really pumped. And to think the Caps have two more first round picks..and I think 2 to 3 2nd round picks..this team will be able to rebuild quickly.

Semin, Ovechkin, and Fehr..damn this team should have some REALLY SKILLED forwards!

And this team already has the top ranked farm system in the NHL. Guys like Boyd Gordon and Eminger are going to be key players in the coming years. Maxime Oullet is gonna be a star in goal after Kolzig retires and there are a ton of good young defensemen such as Yonkman, Cutta, Fortin

I don't see why they wouldn't be. I'm sure Teddy has some money stashed away somewhere, and if he needed he could still bring in some new investors to take on some of the debt.

Good for you guys, but the Hurricanes are going to be better on offense next year, the defense improved greatly this year and our coach is up and coming. Carolina Hurricanes, the 2004-2005 Southeast Division Champions!! Below is the man who will lead the Hurricanes back to the Stanley Cup. Go Canes!

Americans actually care about hockey? haha, wow! No offense but where I live it is common knowledge that the hockey has not caught on in most parts of the U.S, with the exception of Boston, Detroit, New York, etc.

Yeah, I live in NC, but my fiance is from Ohio and loves the Red Wings and she got me hooked on hockey. So being from Raleigh NC, I went with local team and have been a loyal Canes fan ever since.

Yeah, if given a chance, and once American Youth Leagues develope, it will be a big because it is an awesome game to watch! Especially when you live where I live and hockey is life! Except for me, Redskins are life!

Yeah, hockey is a great game. So much better when you are there live. Playoff hockey is the best. I guess I will pull for the Red Wings since my fiance will make me!

Yeah the first pick is a no brainer.

I do wonder what the next 3 in this years draft will be or will they do a trade with a team most likely to suck in 2k5 to go for a top player next year?

Couldn't believe how they dismantled the team this year, but with this pick and the youth of the team, things are looking up.
