Don't know how credible the writer is but he suggests that Laettner and the #5 pick for Al Harrington(it's in the middle of the article) might work. What does everyone think?

i did read that article. i would do that for someone like artest but not harrington... i would offer them stack and maybe a second rounder or future first rounder but not the no. 5 pick (that is overpaying). i would clear as much cap as we can so we can go for a dive into the rich market for 2004-2005. some of the names: ray allen, allen iverson, t-mac. we could try to dump stack off to a team that could actually use him like for robert horry and charlie ward (expiring contracts that i think would match stack's) or to chicago for pippen and jeffries or to new york for othella harrington and john amaechi.
wut i am trying to say is that the possibilities r endless. with laettner, stack, hughes, kwame, haywood off the books next season we will get approximately 19 million in cap to play with. we can use that type of money to resign kwame and go after a big name SG free agent like ray allen.
this post may be pointless but my point is that we should either trade for a good young player but not overpay or we should trade trash for cap.

Although this trade would probably favor Indiana, we would not be overpaying that much. The #5 pick does not mean that much, especially when you compare it to the NFL draft. This year is also a weak draft. Harrington might not be the best player we can get, but he can certainly help the team.

I would love to get a player like Artest. I think that Indiana would be willing to move him but, I think it would cost too much.
I would like to rid ourselves of both Stack and Laettner's contracts. I think that's asking alot for one offseason. If we were able to rid ourselves of Laettner's contract, while trading for a proven commodity who's been consistant over the past few years and is still under 25 and ready to start and PRODUCE, even if we had to include the number 5 pick in the draft I would say do it. I think with Eddie Jordan's coaching he could blossom into a Richard Jefferson type player. I think he'll also bring some much needed attitude.
As much as I wanted to move Stack, I don't think it would be worth it to us. The longer we keep Stack the more valuable he becomes. He does need to come off the bench to now to earn the teams respect again.
I don't think we need anyone from next years free agent crop. I say keep all of these young pieces together like Memphis, Indiana, Phoenix, etc., etc. Keep them together for a couple of years. See what you got. If they need a piece before they just don't resign players or sign and trade. They don't have anyone locked up long term. The key to the cap will be not overpaying for Thomas and Brown.
If we made that trade, kept Stack and lost Dixon in the expansion draft(we can only hope), we would have the following lineup:
Starters
PG - Arenas
SG - Hughes
SF - Harrington
PF - Brown
C - Haywood
Backups
PG - Blake
SG - Stackhouse
SF - Hayes
PF - Jeffries
C - Thomas
This line-updoesn't include the mid-level exception or their second round pick. If someone offers Thomas way too much(which I hope they don't, Etan is my favorite Wiz) they could get a fill in taking either route. The thing I like about the lineup is except for Haywood and Blake, everyone can play multiple positions.

I can see why some of you think the #5 is a bit much, but this appears to be a rather weak draft class.
Especially so if Grunfeld is looking to draft Childress...

"I would like to rid ourselves of both Stack and Laettner's contracts."
Yeah, you and me both. What is totally inexplicable to me is that both of these guys had expiring contracts and got resigned again. Their numbers were about to come off of the cap. The Bullets/Wizards are just a weird franchise.
Here's a local sports question.... Out of these 4 teams, which one will complete a winning season first - bullets/wizards, capitals, orioles, redskins???? Rank from 1-4 (1 is most likely, 4 is least likely).
I'll say
1. Redskins
2. Orioles
3. Caps
4. Wizards (might never have a winning season again).

I agree 110%. And as said in another thread, why the hell would we draft another SG / SF??

Laettner though would be the deal killer for me (IMO)...the guy has never lived up to his hype and he isn't exactly known as a team player.

We would have better luck putting Stack up for grabs on EBAY.

we could get rid off both laettner and stack by next offseason. laettner does hav an expiring contract. he is even more valuable on the last year contract market than scottie pippen who the bulls are offering as long as the pacers also take eddie robinson. who we potentially pick at no. 5 is not as bad as you guys say it is if we make a right choice. by this i mean either biedrins or iguodala.
