Curious to know why you like Smith over Childress? They both excell where the other has deficiencies...
Childress: Good shooting touch, more polish, good handle
Smith: More althletic, streaky shooter, suspect handle.
I do believe that we should be looking at prospective big men to come in and challenge Kwame Brown to reach his full potential...An overcrowded frontcourt is always more valuable than an overcrowded backcourt.

leon,
think about josh smith as darius miles except with a much better jumper. that equals deadly. childress is another jared jeffires that should start receiving consideration only around no. 10 or something.
i like iguodala because altho he is having good workouts rite now, many scouts have projected him to be a really versatile player. He would be in the top 3 if he had a better jump shot. From what I hear iguodala plays excellent defense, is a good rebounder, gets assists, but does not have a great jumpshot.

I've posted about Pavel Podkolzine before but i'll do it again. This guy would have gone lottery last year in a draft which sprouted players like Dwayne Wade, Lebron, Chris Bosh, and Carmello. He is massive but can also move his feet well. He is powerful and has solid instincts. He also spent a year refining his game instead of going to the NBA last year. He is MOST DEFINATELY worth a look.

tkatz,
the guy had a pituitary gland problem last year that caused him to take his name out of the draft. podkolzine is also a few years away from becoming a good player. i think livingston can contribute immediately. everyone says that he has outstanding ballhandling and passing skills. if we are going to acquire a center, i would rather acquire one thru FA.

Podkolzine was rumored at one point to be going as high as like #5 last year, but he was considered a huge project. That is not what we need or have time for.

We need a big man. Bring in Biedrins.

Podkolzine descion to not enter the draft was made before he got sick. He fully understood that he needed a year to refine and improve on his already solid skills. I can see this guy being a serious contributor within two years under good coaching. He will be a monster if he can use his body effectively.

we need immediate help. plus there are a lot of above average-near star centers in FA this year such as dampier, camby, mark blount, divac, okur, ostertag, and the oft-injured mcdyess.
i think taht we should take a player in the draft that can give an immediate impact. biedrins, altho as much as i like him, will need at least 2 years to develop, as will podkolzine. livingston, iguodala, and maybe even smith can come here and contribute immediately or at most 1 year. however if we end up trading down 5 picks or so then we should take a look at podkolzine and biedrins.
tkatz, u maybe asking how will livingston be good this year? he is only a high schooler. but teh thign is that several publications have stated he has excellent passing skills and ball handling skills. he may struggle scoring this year but i see him making the princeton offense work successfully next year

I agree. Livingston in the draft and then a free agent center (either Dampier, who had a monster year last year, or Divac, who is still a solid veteran).

if the bobcats take laettner it would really help us in FA. i think we would then have about 9 mil in cap space to sign free agents. we would immediately become a high enough bidder for dampier's services.

i really wish iguodala was 6-8. he would be an awesome small forward. i want iguodala too if livingston and howard are not there and we can end up getting a good SF thru a trade for one of our SGs. iguodala is an all-around player whose only weakness is his jumpshot. He is the type of player we need. Aggressive defense, point guard-like handle, great rebounder and ball thief.

You only put one big man under the category of who you want them to draft. The Wizards are in desparate need of help under the hoop. They have not had a dominant scorer there in years, and Kwame Brown has been improving very slowly.

I believe that you are exactly right with that statement. The Wizards have an excess ammount of guards and are in no need of any more.

I am starting to think that Luol Deng will fall to the Wizards more and more. I know there are a lot of doubters about him out there but as I have posted countless times this can play and will be a good NBA player. I got to watch several of his games in high school at Blair Academy when their school was playing near by and he was tremendous. He also carried Duke into the final four, he will be solid.
