Larry Brown appears to have totally outcoached Phil Jackson in the Finals, despite having four future hall of famers on his roster, begging the question...

Are Phil Jackson's nine NBA titles solely a result of great players?

Or, has Phil Jackson won nine NBA titles because he is a great coach?

Or, a bit of both.

but 2 of the HOFers r hurt or have lost their game. but i think u r rite. phil jackson would not have won 9 champinoships if it werent for his great players.

You have to be able to coach great talent and make it work. I think the NBA may be the easier of the four major sports o make a group mesh.

I just wish he didn't wine as much.

I agree that a few Championships were won because of players that believed in the system and played within their bondaries. When you have a guy like Michael Jordan/Scottie Pipken in his prime and guys playing their roles. You build confidence throughout the team and let the Superstars do their things. And Michael Jordan did just that. The same goes with Shaq and Kobe. You had legit role players like Horry at his best and Derek Fisher and others. But with the addition of Malone and Payton and Shaq getting older. The Lakers ship was starting to slow down and the younger faster teams gave them fits like Detroit. Detroit smothered the slow manship of the Lakers and let Shaq and Kobe do their things. Malone, Payton and the supporting cast was non-existent once pressure was applied, constantly.

the thing with the lakers was that they were all figured out. everyone had seen how they operate in the triangle offense. i personally believe taht the lakers lost bcause of injuries particualry those of horace grant and malone. if kobe stays i think malone mite giv it one last shot. i do not see payton staying. phil jackson is gone. the lakers will try to recruit another coach that has won championships such as rudy tomjanavich and pat riley. what a disappointing season this has to be for the lakers. to come so close but then fall off at the end.
