View Full Version : Free Agents to Pursue

Here is the path I would pursue with our 6.6 million in cap. This is by priority:
1. Mark Blount
2. Bruce Bowen
3. Mehmet Okur
4. Greg Ostertag
5. Brian Skinner
Bruce Bowen would really improve our defense by not allowing one player to score 40 points on us (uhm lebron....). However I think it is unlikely that we are going to get him. It seems to me that he will likely be a Spur next year because the spurs have only 27.5 mil in salary space for now. So they will easily be able to outbid us for his services.
I have preached about Blount, Okur, and Ostertag on this board a lot. However Brian Skinner is an intriguing player. If we pursue him, it will be for our starting center position. However he is not big. He is only 6-9. So, he is undersized.

I'd rather stand pat than take anybody from that bunch...and hope the current roster plus a draft pick are healthy to play together all season.

The only one I would want on the team is Bowen, and he isn't going anywhere.

I would take Ostertag. The guy is bigger and has better hands than Haywood. He could be had pretty cheap, perhaps 4 mill/year for 2 years, I would assume. Just look at what he did for that Utah team last year. He provided the veteran leadership while the young guys developed and they had phenomenal team chemistry for a bunch of nobody's.

I like Blount, he would be a huge upgrade over Haywood. I don't know much about Skinner, but I see his numbers are about the same as Blount's (10.5 points, 7.5 boards), although he only played in 56 games to Blount's 82, and he would probably come fairly cheap because of his size (he's about the same size as Etan). If we can keep Etan without breaking the bank, I would just stick with him and Kwame, but if Etan leaves, I would take Blount for around $5-6M, or Skinner for around $3-4M. We shouldn't spend much more than the mid-level, so we can have plenty of cap room next year with Hughes and Laettner coming off the books.

I don't like any of those guys. Some of them are sooo bad that I haven't even heard of them.

Any of thoes guys would be good. IMO the Wiz need ro get two things.
1.some chemistry since players was injured off and on all season long.
2. AN Identity!!!!! Maybe Areans or Brown will finally take this team on there shoulders and be a darkhorse team next season

Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean they are bad. What it tells me is that your NBA knowledge isn't up to par to make an educated decision of if any of them can help the Wiz.

Blount or Okor would be an improvement over Brenda

If you look at their stats, or what they have done for their teams, then they don't look 'sooo bad' compared to some other players, and it just shows you don't know much if you haven't heard of them.

Okur and Blount suck, Ostertag is way past his prime as an NBA championship team center, Skinner will never make it as a center in the NBA, and Bowan is not going to leave one of the best teams in the NBA (despite how much I hate them).

How do you know they're "sooo" bad if you haven't heard of them? Gotta love the assumptions through ignorance.

Okur doesn't suck, he's a project though. Rasheed was obviously an upgrade over him, but he's got skills.

I love everybody ripping seand89's ignorance. Shows he should think before he posts.

Ostertag isn't as good as he used to be, but he could still put up respectable numbers under the right system, and he could be a team leader.

Did you say "NBA Championship team center"? The Wiz are looking to upgrade their bigmen, and Ostertag is one over Brendan. There are no "NBA Championship team centers" available (as usual), other than Shaq, and he isn't coming here.

sean Okur has not been given a true chance to start. in less than 25 mins a game last year he averaged about 10 pts and more than 5 rpg. imagine that as a starter. I would project it as 14 ppg and 7 rpg. Blount is a really really good player. The one concern i have about him tho is his bad hands.

In watching Okur, he appears to be slow of foot, especially defensively, and I noticed that his hands were somewhat of a concern also when watching the Finals. I don't believe he fits the Eddie Jordan motion offense, and for that reason, I don't think he will sign with the Wizards.

From Okur's stats last year as a backup, I think the Wizards should sign him and give him a chance. He is still fairly young and could develop into a good player. It isn't too risky of a move now that the team has more stability with Jamison.

I mentioned Dampier in another thread. He is coming off a huge year, but watch out......he is also an ex-Warrior! This is one big experiment to see how the Warriors would have done in the East...

Personally I am sick of Washington having 6' 9' centers (who are really 6'7"-8") I'd like to see your 4th choice Ostertag at least he can take up space.
