If the Wiz renounce Etan Thomas, Mitchell Butler and Chris Whitney that leaves them with around 3 million in cap room. It really all depends on what the NBA makes the salary cap number this year though. The cap number could actually go down this year. We'll just have to wait and find out. So, look for the Wiz to resign Etan, and then try to lure someone in with the MLE.

I expect them to be pretty quiet. They have their starting lineup...and just need depth with the big boys.

Key this year is health. Stay healthy....play together. See what happens.

Very true. I do believe that the Wiz could make a move for Stephen Jackson or Hedo Turkoglu if they're not comfortable with Hayes/Jeffries. Especially after reading the Post report that said Kwame could move to 5 and Jamison could play the 4.

I think we're at about $39M right now, not including Etan, and last year's cap was around $52M, I believe, but can't remember. We're not going to get a max FA, but we should have enough to sign one of the better big men, if any want to come here. If we can't bring in an upgrade at PF or C, depending on where they play Kwame, we definitely need to re-sign Etan, and can still afford to bring in a good role player.

There aren't any big men out there that I would want to sign to a big long term contract....personally I think they should stand pat and not sign anyone unless some really good deal comes along....they have a great core of young players......

The salary cap number this past season was actually 43.8 million. Depending on revenues, this number could go up or down. You never really know though. The number went up to a surprisingly high amount last offseason, and it allowed the Wiz to sign Gil.

there is a lot to like about our young players , its just that none of them were at the point experience-wise to really give us consistant numbers on a nightly basis. how many times would Kwame, Jeffries or Etan (just to pick a couple names) have 2 or 3 real good outings and then........zilch for 2 or 5 or 6 more games.
Jamison helps this because he knows his way around and knows what he can do and has done it for several seasons. he helps all the youngin's by his presence. the fact that Grunfeld was able to do this and manage the cap is great.
i hope we are done trading frankly, i think we got what we needed and got rid of what we didn't need.

I agree. Hopefully the top priority is resigning Etan.

No need to sign someone just for the sake of signing someone...

Kwame at center
Jamison/Etan at PF
Hayes/Jeffries SF

And we can grab one of the 7'5 centers in the 2nd round
Nice young frontcourt

Dont forget we have Brendan Haywood! I dont like him as a starter but if we have him coming of the bench I think he'll be much better.

i don't think Kwame is going to be playing center i still see

areans
hughes
jamison
Kwame
Haywood

now at times Kwame will be playing center, but he will be starting at PF

now what happens with Hayes or Jeffries, is Hayes now just a 2 and not a 3?

Exactly....Kwame will not play center (permanently), he is barely physical enought to play PF.

I thought I saw something in the Post where Jordan said he planned on playing Kwame at center some this year...
