CHICAGO (AP) -- Kirk Hinrich scored 32 points to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 100-95 victory over the Washington Wizards in an exhibition game delayed by a fight Monday night.

The fight caused the game to be stopped for several minutes with 3:22 left in the third quarter. Washington's Larry Hughes pushed Hinrich into Chicago's Luol Deng as he was going in for a layup.

Hughes and Hinrich confronted each other after the play and Chicago's Antonio Davis came in to defend Hinrich. Then Washington's Brendan Haywood took a swing at Davis, who countered with a right jab to Haywood's face.
They wrestled to the floor before order was restored. There were no injuries.

"I was running and he started to cut me off and I moved him," Hughes said of Hinrich. "He's running full speed and I'm running full speed and made contact."

Davis and Michael Ruffin of the Wizards were ejected.

"It is one of those things that cooler heads should have prevailed, but they didn't," Haywood said.

Haywood wasn't ejected despite swinging at Davis.

"I wasn't surprised because I was protecting myself," Haywood said. "I was trying to protect my teammates and then I was trying to protect myself.

"He was the one that initiated it. Somebody pushed me when my back was turned. I thought it was him, Antonio Davis."

Davis said he was only trying to protect his teammates.

"We shouldn't take any baloney," he said. "We should stick up for one another."

Tommy Smith hit a jumper to give the Bulls a 96-95 lead with 37.4 seconds remaining. Jarvis Hayes missed a jumper for Washington on the other end and Hinrich followed with two free throws to put the Bulls up 98-95 with 19.2 seconds left. Hayes missed a 3 to tie the game with 12 seconds left.

Hayes scored 15 points for Washington, and Haywood had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Andres Nocioni added 11 points and nine rebounds for Chicago.

The Wizards closed the first half by outscoring the Bulls 18-6 and led 54-41. Samaki Walker scored 11 points in the half and Gilbert Arenas added 10 and four assists for the Wizards. Chicago had 13 turnovers in the half.

Arenas finished with 12 points, seven assists and seven steals for Washington.

Smith and Davis had 10 points apiece for Chicago.

The Wizards extended their lead to 70-49 on Hayes' dunk with 6:55 left in the third quarter. The Bulls closed out the quarter by outscoring the Wizards 11-2.

Nocioni cut the lead to 82-74 with a jumper to end the quarter. Nocioni then hit a 3 to tie the game at 89 with 3:41 left.

Hinrich gave the Bulls a 94-92 lead with 2:17 to go.

Antawn Jamison rested his bruised right knee and did not play for the Wizards. Tyson Chandler missed the game for the Bulls due to illness

I saw the tail end when Haywood squared up against somebody and both were thrown to the ground

We're looking at a couple suspensions for sure. The Wiz will probably only have Jamison in the startling lineup they planned on having for the start of the season. This is disappointing.

Haywood tried to take a cheap shot at Davis...surprise, surprise UNC players taking cheap shots!

I just saw the video. The only cheap shot I saw was Eddy Curry taking a swing at Big Brenda's intimate area towards the end of the brawl. But hey, I'm just glad to see there is some fight in Big Brenda.

Haywood looked scared to death when Davis was coming at him.

This is the most fight I've seen the Wiz have in years!

Hentrich cut him off as Hughes was trying to make a play of the ball, but you don't shove him like that.

And Eddie Curry should be suspended more than anyone with that punch to the *ahem* while he was down.

Hughes shouldn't have pushed Kirk. I'm sure he wasn't trying to hurt anyone and it didn't look like he pushed him very hard, he should have known better.

I'm glad someone finally lit a fire under Brendan's *****. It's about time.

Can't wait to see the Wizard's bigs eat the Bulls alive in the regular season.

Haywood looked like a big punk after taking a swing at the smaller Antonio Davis, and then backpedaling all the way down the court before squaring up. It was hilarious though.

Whoa what was Curry doing? What a cheap shot! Just like Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowgirls.

Well Antonio Davis isn't that small. Haywood is just taller but Davis is a big guy in way that he can take Haywood down. Why couldn't there be fights of cheerleaders.

Arenas should have taken out Curry when he threw that cheap shot.

The starting lineup on opening night is going to be embarrasing. Plus Memphis is a team that goes ten deep.

NEW YORK -- Brendan Haywood of the Washington Wizards was suspended for three games by the NBA on Wednesday for fighting during a preseason game against the Chicago Bulls.

Antonio Davis and Eddy Curry of the Bulls received two-game suspensions, Washington's Larry Hughes drew a one-game suspension and Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich was handed a $10,000 fine.

The penalties were announced Wednesday by NBA vice president Stu Jackson, who found Haywood most at fault for the fight late in the third quarter of Chicago's 100-95 victory on Monday night.

Haywood, Davis and Curry were suspended for throwing punches, while Hughes was penalized for initiating the confrontation by head-butting Hinrich.

The suspensions take effect with the opening of the NBA regular season next week.

The NBA also fined Boston guard Paul Pierce $15,000 for spitting in the direction of the Cavaliers' bench during Cleveland's 95-88 victory over the Celtics on Monday night.

Etan's abdomen is all banged up. It looks like he could be out for a while.

Blake is also out with an ankle injury...

So our starting line up will be.

Dixon
Hayes
Jeffries
Jamison
Walker

More than likely, Jeffries will cost us this game .. Guy still has no shooting touch and looks lost on offense.

I should start that effing Jeffries thread as well. Oh well. Go Wiz.

Looks like the curse is still alive and well in D.C. I do think this team will overcome it somehow.

As long as everyone concedes up front that we are not going to win opening night against Memphis, then this really isn't a big deal.

What worries me more is that we play Charlotte on the next night and we can't afford to be dropping must-win games like this one. We need all the wins we can get, especially at the start of the season.

Our lineup for the game vs the Bobcats will probably look like this:

Arenas
Hughes
Hayes
Jamison
Walker

PS - No Brendan Haywood for opening night at home versus Shaq. Looks like a combo of Samaki and Ruffin in the paint

We could still beat the Bobcats with that lineup. Memphis is a definite loss, and probably would've been a loss if we had a healthy and disciplined squad anyway.

Like Haywood could've done anything more than get manhandled by Shaq just as badly as Walker and Ruffin.
