I'm starting this thread to find out what each person that participates on this board thinks that we need to give us a complete team. I know many of you are content with what we have on our bench now and to be honest I am too, but I also think we are missing one or two pieces to make us true contenders in the whole league not just the east.
My though was a true scoring sixth man, somebody that could come off the bench and give us instant offense. I know we already have Juan, Brown, and Hayes coming off the bench and also Peeler but out of those three which one is our true sixth man. Sixth man (definition); is a team players that could usually start for most teams in the league but chooses to except his role as the spark plug for the second unit. I don’t feel that none of the above mention players fit that mold.

I think Hayes could end up being that 6th man you are referring to. He has a great jump shot and is great off the pick (like a Ray Allen but not quite as good). ;)
As far as what we need: We need to continue to let this young team grow, improve and continue to gel. As the wins come they will gain more confidence. As the minutes come they will gain more experience and skills.

We need an interior defender and rebounder. Someone who won't get thrown around inside and who can make a stop in the post or get a board in the post when we need one. Kwame and Haywood are solid, but not spectacular, post defenders and rebounders, but they can get lost at times inside. We need someone who can come in off the bench and dominate the post in critical situations. I hope Etan can do that when he gets back, we're paying him a lot of money for his post presence. Other than that, we just need our young team to mature together. No big multi-player trades, and bring back most of the players in the offseason (Hughes and Kwame definitely), while adding solid complementary veterans. We have a lot of talent on the team and can be a top 4 team in the East next season, if not this one.
I think Hayes will be a great 6th man on this team. He's an excellent shooter and is still not even a year and a half into his career. He's improved a lot since last year, he's getting much better at creating his own shot. He's definitely a core player for the future of the Wiz.

I believe Etan will add a lot to this team. His size, muscle, his motor, his blocking, plus I think everyone likes him. He makes aggresive move tword the hoop also. We are missing a real MAN in the post. Someone with heart of a Ben Wallace.
Hayes may become something but Im not real high on him. He isnt better then last year, he is worse. Look up his stats. He is streaky and he needs someone to feed him the ball. He isnt a great passer either. Right now, I don't even think he deserves playing time over other players.
Blake will add a lot also. He knows the game and he showed a great ability to score late last year. He can nail 3's, he can play with in the offense, he will drive to the hoop, he has great energy, heart, and makes good decissions. He is a gamer.
I also like Profit. I think he could be our Simmons from last year. Look what Simmons is doing this year. We should have kept him. He is much better then Hayes. Anyway, he is gone, I think Profit is in the same mold. He just needs a chance to show it. Everyone else has gotten a chance, we need to see what he has.
So of the players that we have that I think have the game sence and ability are Etan, Blake and Profit.
As for adding someone new, I think we need to see what we have first. We need to stay patient a little longer before we go moving players off the roster only to find them on another team doing everything we needed them to do here.
Right now we are missing a athelic star playing the 4. All we have to fill that slot is Jefferies, Etan, Kwame. Etan is the most dependable at this point. Who know is Jefferies will ever develop the skills to be an athetic 4. Etan would be a power 4. If we wanted to go for the sure thing, we would trade for a star we know has the whole package. We would be awesome if we had this. Its what we are most missing at this point.

I know Etan brings alot to the plate but I have never really been that high on him I really beleive that Haywood has past em all and that includes Brown too. But I also need to give Brown and Etan a real chance to show that they have elvated thier games like Haywood.
I do agree agree with you about the 4 spot but to be honest there are not that many athletic 4's in the league to begin with there are more traditional 4's in the league. I know a lot of people are hard on our big men and some times rightfully so but if it's offense you want from them, then you wont see it. Our offense is centered around the big three and the big three only, those guys are not giving up any shot attemtps for no big man. The only way Ewing, Oneal, and Robinson got all those shots was because the their offense was centered around them and most all the plays went to them. It's not like that here guys our big men only get garbage points. There is no true reason to pay Brown big money for garbage let him go and find a dam good trade for him or star running plays for him so he can feel apart of this offense and team too.

I looked at the box score of the Warriors game and excluding Arenas, Hughes, and Jamison, the Wizards were 8-29 shooting for 31 points.
We have a nice core on this team now, now it's time to surround them with players who can consistently play well.
- Hayes hasn't scored in double figures in the last 7 games.
- Jeffries is no threat at all.
- Haywood needs to play tougher, especially with Shaq in the division. I wouldn't mind keeping him though. He's getting better.
- Kwame has had plenty of time to develop and hasn't.

I did notice that in the early part of the game the Wiz were trying to post-up Kwame....there was at least four plays in a few minute span that this happened....he scored on a jumper and got fouled another time and travelled once and missed a shot the other time...so there was some effort to get him going in the post....
I agree that we have "The Big 3" and there is nothing wrong with evolving our offense around them...now we need role players that can compliment them...I think Haywood is a serviceable center that has improved and will continue to...and Etan, Kwame, and Ruffin all fill rolls.....

Once Kwame gets in game shape they will be posting him up more trying to get his opposite number in foul trouble....he is quick and once he fully develops his spin move he will be next to unstoppable.....Eddie Jordan is doing the right thing by bringing him along slowly...remember he still hasn't played more games than the preseason schedule and so is still getting into the swing of things....I'm just wondering when Etan will come back from the abdominal injury.......

I think they learned there lesson last season when they rushed Gil back from a similiar injury just to see him re-aggrivate it....so, I think they are being extra cautious with Etan..

There was some talk of possibly activating Etan on the road trip. He is eligible to come off of the IR.
Back to the original question, a lock down perimeter defender. Someone like Bruce Bowen, but younger.

How can you not be high on Etan. I am and it looks like Ernie is also. He has shown me everything I need to see. He is only going to get better but he is already more polished then Haywood ( different possition )
Oh, you will see the offense transition to include the bigs. It won't happen right away, but it will happen. A smart PG/G uses the bigs like a strong running game to soften up the middle. I actually got to thinking about this again the other day.
I think Gil has the hardest job. Hughes to a less extent. To be a talented PG is a practice of control. If they are great, they are a great scoring as well as passer and ball handler. They could try to score every point ( ie Iverson ), but if they are great, they have to pass up thier shot and give it to a big who will score for them. They are the mitro. Im sure they feel like they are actually scoring themselves if they make a great pass and make it easy on the person finishing. they can generate team energy with a lob for a slam, etc. This picks the whole team up. They manage the team. This also saves their energy and it keeps the Big happy. You need everyone involved and feeling good about what they are contributing. The PG knows he needs to keep the bigs happy because they are going to rebound, block shots and set picks for him. He respects this about them. Then the great PG has to know when the team needs him to score. He dusts off his jumper, drives to the hoop or whatever.
This was evidence in the Pheniox game. Nash came out and set the tone by nailing 2 or 3 early 3's. Then he became a creator. The great PGs, this is what they do. You arent going to be a great team unless you involves some bigs into your game plan, youll just be the Celtics from last year.
