Here are the Nationals with an interim GM, a hard cap $50 million payroll from MLB, no ownership group in sight and playing in a 40 year old stadium.................
and yet THIS is the team that Angelos and the Orioles claim is preventing them from being able to acquire any premier free agents in 2005
The Nationals are going to win 65-70 games in 2005 just as they did in 2004. The Mets and Braves have improved themselves in the offseason while this team has merely treaded water, albeit with a very young roster.
But, lets not make the mistake of thinking this is the old Expos club from 5-7 years ago that had top prospects dripping out of every level of minor league ball.
this club's young hitters Wilkerson and Schneider are coming off .250 seasons.

Angelos is running his team into the ground. Can you imagine if Snyder owned the Orioles.

If Angelos actually put quality talent on the field, he wouldn't have to worry about a flippant fanbase. F'im. Go Nats!

Once again the little toad, Peter Angelos, holds the city of Baltimore hostage by refusing to sign anyone to better a team that appeared to be on its way to becoming a contender. If this guy is SO concerned with the $$ he's going to lose, he should SELL THE TEAM!

Remember guys....."There are no real baseball fans in DC. They are all from the surrounding counties/areas"
muhhahhahhahahahahah
This idiotic quote from Angelos..... I guess 100% of the Orioles fans come from ONLY the city of Baltimore itself right???
Get real...
This guy was scared to death of a team moving to DC...why do you think he put up the fight? If he didnt care he would of said put a team in NOVA/Va Beach and DC and it wont matter because we're the Orioles and everyone from Egypt to Alaska is an Orioles fan...
Cut the jokes...this guy knew that a DC team would atleast "try" to build a winner instead of sitting back w/a nice stadium and offer 2-for-1 crabcakes and free admission for Women who come to the park w/a Mullett etc...
That guy would rather have the fans come to see that joke of team play due to gimmicks and smoke & mirrors than to see a good team!
Oh wait he did try i forgot he signed Tejada! (way to put a band-aid over a broken leg!!!)

well, whoever buys this team is going to have to have some deep pockets. the Mets and Braves spend liberally to bring in veteran talent and while not the Red Sox/Yankee duel the death, it represents a major challenge in getting this team to be competitive and a contender over the next 3-5 years.
