after blaming the Yankees and Red Sox for the team's inability to recruit free agents and then demonizing the newly located Nationals as the cause of his travails, Peter Angelos now has to come face to face with the new Toronto ownership that has vowed to get back to the competitive days they had back in the early 1990's and become players in free agency again
there goes that chance to move up in the AL East

The Jays became the only MLB game in Canada now that The Expos went south.
If they actually wanted to improve their team, they would have given Delgato 13 a year (a 4 a year PAYCUT). As of right now, they have 2 good players in Halladay and Vernon Wells. After that, it's Eric Hinske, who has been a bust since winning the rookie of the year a few years back, and Orlando Hudson, who could become areally good 2nd baseman.
They'll compete with the Rays to win 70 games or 4th place this year.

well, according to the Rogers Syndicate, which recently purchased the Blue Jays, they are indeed going to spend money to rebuild their farm system and acquire free agents to compete in the East.
perhaps you are expecting too much too soon in regards to Delgado, who had one foot out the door when the new owners took over.
but any moves by the Jays to be more competitive can only hurt the Orioles in an already too-competitive (for them) AL East.
Angelos was counting on the Jays and Rays being so bad for so long that the Orioles could coast along as a solid third place team near or slightly above .500 and not have to invest real dollars in the payroll across the board.

I'm not worried about the Blue Jays. If they go after free agents then they'll lose early round draft picks, and I don't know if they have the prospects in their system to make many big trades either.
The O's have made much progress in overhauling their minor leage system. They've changed some of their scouts as well as their director of scouting and minor league operations. The O's GM tandem, though much maligned, has made some very respectable moves. They signed Tejada and Lopez, upgraded their bullpen with Reed and Kline, and made good moves on the contracts of Buddy Groom (let go), Pat Hentgen (let go) and signed Mora to a 3 year deal. That 3 year 12 mil deal plus incentives is nothing compared to what he could get on the open market today.

Hardly..that is all BS..like they did anything but backpeddle this offseason..
Peter makes no excuses..the FO made mistakes in the mid-late 90's..and he was the front office..he resigned himself to allowing Baseball people run the team..and they are doing fine..Toronto has some pitchers..and a couple of bright spots..but they are way behind organizationally...l
Nat fans..there is room for two...focus on your team..it will be fun..stop the Washington Post BS about Angelos.

You shoudl tell this to Angelos...i think he needs to worry more abotu this then the Nats fans.
Well a good portion of the BS about angelos is him attempting to now use the Nats as an excuse for his team to be terrible. That is why they didnt sign an marque free agents, at least according to thier GM's

the simple fact is that Angelos and a lot of excuse-makers in Baltimore are more obsessed with the Nationals and what is happening in Washington than vice-versa.
for the Orioles to come out and try and make the excuse that the presence of the Nationals has inhibited them in free agency is absolute garbage.
the Orioles went to 4 world series in 6 years from 66-71 when there was an AMERICAN league team in Washington.
Now, a National league franchise is going to threaten them?
