I was a Senators fan as a kid. I tried to follow the Rangers when they moved but didn't even last a season. I haven't followed baseball much since then. I've considered myself a Senators fan all these years. My username here was in reference to the Senators, but obviously still works for the Nationals.

I'm just getting started now with the Nationals. Obviously we're in for a long season, probably a number of them. What I am interested in is a rundown of the players on the team, what to expect. It looks like nearly half the starting lineup will be new to the team this year. Anybody pay any attention to the Expos last season?

Well we are all new to the Nats...but I will try to give my thoughts...

Top Tier Players:

Brad Wilkerson (OF/1b)...he can hit for power. He didnt drive in as many RBI's last year considering he had 30+ hr's but maybe w/some other guys around him who can get on base (and stay healthy) that number SHOULD rise. He is average on D (not as good as N.Johnson) and wont win the batting title but will hit in the .270-.290 range.

Jose Vidro...2b. He is a stud when healthy. He reminds me of a Roberto Alomar type (w/out spitting) and can play defense. The only reason he's not a household name is because he played in Montreal. But this guy will hit .300/drive in runs and hit 20-30 bombs. He is without a doubt our most COMPLETE player.

After these two guys we have a ton of guys WITH potential and actually Terrmel Sledge (OF) is supposed to be the real deal...maybe like a Garrett Anderson type of player...but this is his first FULL year in the Bigs so he should hit 25-35 bombs and drive in 100+ runs...he is our diamond in the rough.

Guzman is a nice shortstop defensively but wont put up Jeter typelike numbers.

Jose Guillen actually had 27 hr's AND over 100 RBI's last year for the Angels...I fully expect those #'s this year if not more....he is underrated but alot of folks say he's a clubhouse cancer...we shall see.

Brian Schneider (C) - is supposed to be a extremely good defensive catcher but doesnt light it up with the bat....maybe a Charles Johnson type of player... But to have him as a starting catcher is definitly a plus.

Vinny Castilla (3b)...this guy led the league in RBI's last year (NL) while in Colorado. His numbers will go down while not being in the mountains this year...he may be dealt before the trade deadline if a contender needs a bat. All in all i cant complain in having him...he does have pop and w/our limited budget we need all the players we can get who have actually produced in the Bigs (considering all of our young players).

They might not be great, but i think they have a core group that they can easily work with and build upon once they get some owners in there and a year under thier belt.
