Kwame was the first kid taken right out of highschool and at the time it was a huge deal. Some time has now passed and others have come into the league in the same way. Kwame is now no longer as unique or spotlighted as he was back then.
As I said before. I think his injury may be a blessing in the end. He has been out of the spot light and had time to get his head straight. He has also been able to watch this team and how it plays. The team is now winning and has gelled in his absence. He is no longer needed to be the team focus or leader. We have 3 leaders. All are young, so he should be able to indentify with them and feel good about being here and our chances of winning for many years.
Now, I know there is still pressure on him, but there is pressure on a lot of players. People have committed a lot to these guys, money, reputation, etc. They have to produce.
So I dont think its ever looked this good for him to succeed. I hope he plugs into what going on and helps us win some games.
I really think the best thing he can do right away is concentrate on rebounds and defense. His offense will come in time, but if he can average 8-10 boards a game, everyone will be saying keep him and what a great player and team player he is. If he can do this, he will buy himself time to work on his offense more. Over time, he can become a dominate offensive treat. But for now, I think thats where he should focus first. We dont need the points so much.
I have a good feeling about this.

Im looking forward to seeing him take a shot at it.
If you consider he is.
This would be his senior year in college.

Hes been through his introduction to the NBA game and players.
He has some experience and success on the court.
Hes on a winning team with 3 stars and the team has gelled.
This is his second year with this coach.
He has phyically matured.
He is more mentally mature.
I think this looks really good. I keep saying. Its never looked this good for him to succeed. I like our chances of this working.

He can be "all that" for sure, but he'll never reach "and a bag of chips." His start was too rocky for superstardom in the long run. I don't even care. I just want him to be an effective big man.

How can you say that ?
What does his start have to do with anything ?
Its not how you start, its how you finish.
Are you saying, if you start "too rocky" that you cant become a superstar ?
Besides, Im not talking superstar. If thats going to happen, its still most likey going to be 2-3 yrs out at a min. Im talking about a good ball player. An impact ball player. A valuable part of a team. A starter. Just because he was the #1 pick doesnt really matter to me at this point. He is a player now. And if we can keep him for the right money, thats all that matters. At 5M a year, Id take him. I heard he wants a 1 year contract to prove himselve next year before signing long term. Thats fine with me.
Again, Kwame's immediate goal should be to average 8-10 boards a game and be a above average defender. Get some blocks. He can run the floor once he is in shape, so he is going to get some points in transition, even if he doesnt have his own post moves. He is very quick for his size. He should be able to get at least 10pts a game even if they dont run plays for him. Ruffin can even score with this offense, as long as he takes it to the hoop when open.
8-10pts, 8-10rbs, 1 block, good defense against opposing PF/C
If he can do this, the pressure will be off of him for now and he will buy some time to grow his offensive game.
This is the kind of player thats currently missing from this team. He doesnt have to be ONeal to make us a lot better as a team.

Lets say he ends up turning the season around and playing well. Why would he re-sign with us? I think he could get more money elsewhere. Washington hasn't exactly been great to him either.
I think the best thing to do is trade him for a bid defensive presence.

Kwame already is a big defensive presence. Watch and see.

Correct. Plus the boards and points he'll get; he should fit right in and be just what we need for now at least. Maybe even more than we need in the future.
Go 'zards.

I totally agree with this. If he concentrates on playing sound defense and crashing the boards the easy lay-ups and slams will come to him. Totally agree.

That's amazing isn't it! He seems like he has been here forever but he should be a rookie next year! He still has the upside plus all the experience he has gathered so far...the big thing for him now is to stay healthy! and continue to learn.

Yea, this is my big fear. I think he will be here next year on a one year contract but what happens when he explodes next year? He will want a long term huge contract from someone.

This is what we need from Kwame this season.

MEM post game.
Kwame wanted to start off just feeling things out and passing. He has 3 assists. 2nd half he wanted to try to score more but he never got back in. Doesnt sound like Eddie and him were on the same page.
EJ post game. We need him to rebound and play solid D.
Sounds like Kwame is anxious to put up some points, Eddie wants him to worry about defense.
It may be hard for Kwame to just worry about D, when he is in a contract year. I hope this doesnt become a problem. He should give it time. Worry about D now, the pts will come later. He was 1-4 in 10 minutes. I wonder what how many shots he wanted to take the second half ? Etan was 2-4 in 22. I wonder if this was why EJ didnt play him the second half.
