O'Neal landed awkwardly on Chicago's Othella Harrington under the Bulls' basket just 1:46 into the game and winced in pain while grabbing his left knee. After a few minutes on the court, he was escorted to the locker room, but X-rays were negative and he was diagnosed with a left knee strain.

"I saw him come down on someone and it looked like he twisted his knee," All-Star Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "I was passing the ball in there. I saw him afterward and know he'll be OK. He is sore, he looked encouraged, though, even in his pain. Some of that was because we had just lost the game."

Am I the only one that first thought, "If Shaq is out for awhile, maybe we can catch the Heat".....

We'll take any break we can get. The rest of the season is going to be tough and the Eastern Conference standings are going to get tight. just wish we hadn't already played our games w/ Miami. It would be nice to gain a full game on them by beating them w/o Shaq. Oh well. It starts at home tonight vs. Memphis.

Not with the way we played the last week before the break. Hopefully Hughes and Kwame coming back will get the fire going again, and everyone else re-energized themselves over the break.

Sorry, you said ESPNEWS. I only read the website. That's good for the Wiz, but too bad for the Heat.

It is allllll over the Heat board. Wow what a break for us! I hate to see it though since he is an LSU alum, but he has won his championships, he just opened the floodgates for the East. It is now us, the Pistons, and the Cavs as far as Im concerned. And we're getting back Hughes and Brown now? HUGE TIMING.

Damnit. It was too good to be true. ESPNews has retracted the story. It looks like everyone bought into a fake Miami Herald article.

Shaq to have MRI on knee Thursday

By Ira Winderman

INDIANAPOLIS -- Heat center Shaquille O'Neal was walking unassisted Wednesday, a day after taking a frightening fall in the first two minutes of his team's 105-101 overtime loss in Chicago.

The initial diagnosis remains a strained left knee, although more will not be known until an MRI is taken Thursday in Miami and the joint is examined by team physician Harlan Selesnick.

O'Neal traveled with the team overnight Tuesday to Indianapolis, but the decision was made to wait for further evaluation until the team returns early Thursday morning to South Florida. The 7-foot-1, 330-pound veteran is being held out of tonight's game against the Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse.

O'Neal went down clutching his left knee 1 minute, 35 seconds into Tuesday's game at the United Center after he stumbled into Bulls power forward Othella Harrington while trying to corral a pass from teammate Dwyane Wade.

While O'Neal needed assistance getting to the X-ray room, he was able to walk several feet back to the Heat locker room on his own at the United Center.

He limped to the team bus late Tuesday night, but by the time the team arrived early Wednesday in Indianapolis that limp was gone.

After missing 15 games in each of the previous three seasons while with the Lakers, O'Neal, until Wednesday night, had missed only one this season, a Dec. 21 victory over the Celtics, with a bruised left calf.

The knee has been a problem for O'Neal before. He missed three games for the Lakers in 2002-03 with a sore left knee and 28 for the Lakers in '96-97 with a hyper-extended left knee.

"Of course it's a concern,'' coach Stan Van Gundy said after Tuesday's game. "Obviously it's a concern."

By Saturday's home game against Orlando, a reinforcement should be in place, with Alonzo Mourning to join the team as a free agent.

Look at today's headings about Fat's injury. They can't control the glee that he's only "day to day".
