Sacramento (35-21) at Washington (31-23)
Game Info: 6:00 pm EST Sun Feb 27, 2005
TV: CSNS, NC8
The Sacramento Kings proved Saturday they can win without Chris Webber. The Kings will now try to win for the third time in four games since a stretch in which they lost six of seven as they visit the Washington Wizards.
Sacramento traded Webber, along with reserve forwards Matt Barnes and Michael Bradley, to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday for veteran forwards Corliss Williamson, Kenny Thomas and Brian Skinner.
Three days later, they squared off against Webber in his Philadelphia debut, beating the 76ers 101-99. Webber missed a last-second layup after grabbing the rebound on Allen Iverson's intentionally missed free throw.
``Real weird seeing No. 4 starting for the other team, but a lot of fun,'' Sacramento's Brad Miller said.
Mike Bibby scored 19 points, leading six players in double figures for the Kings, who lost 122-113 to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday in their first game without Webber. Williamson scored 17 points in 29 minutes, Thomas had 16 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes, and Skinner did not score in 10 minutes. All three were playing in their first game for Sacramento.
``We're hoping they'll give us more depth up front that we didn't have,'' Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said.
Webber finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and three steals for the Sixers.
Williamson, who also played for the Kings from 1995-00, started in place of Peja Stojakovic -- who missed his fifth straight game with a strained hamstring.
The Wizards lost 97-90 to the Chicago Bulls on Friday -- their fourth defeat in five games. Gilbert Arenas scored 36 points, giving him at least 30 in 12 out of his last 17 games. Antawn Jamison added 19 points and 10 rebounds for his 22nd double-double of the season.
Larry Hughes missed his 18th game with a broken right thumb. Hughes, who was averaging 21.2 points per game, was activated from the injured list Wednesday but has yet to return to the court.
However, Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said that he should be on the floor Sunday.
``I think that's the target date,'' Jordan said.

Amazing. These guys just cant stay healthy.
Jefferies has a knee problem ?
Hayes pulls up on a dunk ?
I really thought Hughes would be back.
This could get ugly quick. Kwame isnt in the grove yet. The whole offense slows down with him in the game.
Here the line up to get back in synce.
Gil, Jam, Etan, Ruffin, Haywood

Damn. I just turned the game on. I couldn't find it anywhere on the TV guide. Channel 8 said "Infomercials" was on so I didn't bother checking the channel. A big "F U" to Adelphia.
Side note: I saw Jarvis Hayes last night at H2O as he was leaving. Gave him some dap and congratulated him on the season. I forgot they played today, which probably explains why he was leaving so early.
Aight. Game time.

At least we have one player who can do it.
Kwame is doing much better the second half. I hope he keeps it up. It may take a few games for him to understand the game again.
If we could only hit some FTs we would be crushing them.

The Wizards are gonna be in a dog fight for the rest of the season. But as some of our players are getting healthy. Some others teams in the East were re-tooling.
So if the Wiz think those 30 something wins meant alot for the 1st half of the season. They better be prepared for a much harder 2nd half of the season.

Easy, most of our PF/C that were depending on to help carry us are either clumsy or have butter fingers;) . Big Goofs is a better term:laugh: .
When can we ever get a legitimate big man without him being timid, Clumsy, or just plan old slow and bad with his feet. We need a Center or PF that can score somewhat but most importantly able to hold on to the ball in the paint and have some tenacity inside of the paint.
Man! Stay Tuned cause the playoffs now is no gimme. With other teams in the East surging and some teams in the East re-tooling.
That's why it's important for Jordan to use his rotation and get some of these guys that were hurt or on the bench into the flow. cause the chemistry needs to really be there for our role players cause were gonna really need them during the 2nd half of the season. With fatigue and injuries starting to take place this time of year. Our bench and role players better start stepping up...

wow, how many things went wrong the last couple seconds.
Kwame rebounds - should have pulled it back out, then we would have had the last shot but he puts it right back up, he's fouled but they dont call it, then the ball goes off Brad Miller but the give it the SAC. REFS SUCK
Then Bibby misses, Haywood gets a great rebound, but Gil strips him and SAC picks it up and scores.
Again, we need Hughes. He and Gil can close out the games. Pick your poison. Either one or the other will score on you or go to the line.
Good News
Haywood looked great.
Etan looking stronger all the time
Blake looking better WOW, 17 pts
Kwame gets another game under his belt. Did some nice things. He got a double double.
GIL IS A BEAST
Bad News
Hayes hurt
Jamison looked like Doggie Po Po, go hit in the ribs.
18-33 FTs .545
EJ needs to start calling them out about FTs. Come on. They are supposed to be professionals. He need to hit them for some serious drills. Put them with a FT specialist. Jamison was 1-6.

I missed the game (don't get Channel 8 in Richmond) but from the play-by-play and the box score, here's what I can figure out:
1. Antawn was terrible...cold from the floor, lots of turnovers and foul trouble
2. Kwame started for Jeffries and played okay though he had a key turnover in the final minutes and didn't shoot too well from the free throw line.
3. Hayes must have gotten hurt...he has limping around the past few games...? what sort of injury
4. Gilbert was a BEAST
5. Blake with a nice spark off the bench and...
6. Still NO HUGHES?!
Did I miss anything?

And dont even get me started on our joke of a FT percentage game after game after game after......
We lose everygame in the same fashion....HORRIBLE FT shooting and HORRIBLE 3 point defense....it isnt a new phenomanon...its been going on since November....if we cant correct things NOW then why would we later....this team really scares me right now...hopefully Hughes will give us a lift because we are just so 1 dimensional on offense (Gilbert is everything) and we dont play much D...

That's why were gonna lose some games early during the 2nd half. Even though some of our big men have flaws. They're still trying to feel they're way around and get their legs back and be a steady part of the rotation opposed to being a liability from being injured.
But Hughes would defintely help right now and it may take a few games or weeks before he's comfortable with the finger. So, in return we may lose some close games cause some of our guys haven't really played a full season together and need to get some chemistry between each other.
Players like:
Blake
Thomas
kwame
and when Dixon gets back as well as hughes..
Time outta the rotation especially when a number of guys are just starting to get back into the rotation. It takes away from the steady flow of chemistry between one another. Sometimes it may take half the season before things start clicking with all the players that were hurt and just now getting back.
But most important we need our big guys to start being more efficient in the paint and that's on offense and defense and shooting FT's.

He better give Gil a little sa-um sa-um
Ok, Im head coach. Here yea go. Ok, inbound the ball. Get it to Blake or Gil to bring it up. Ok, do that weave thing a couple times so they think we are running an offense. Then Gil, well, you know, do something with it. Nail a 3 or drive.
Ok Break.
Wait till Hughes get back. The coaching get harder.

IMO, I know Grunsfeld wants to see wht this team is made of before trading anyone.
But again as I posted earlier this week. We need a better set of role players and bench players IMO. Gil and hughes are the key to the Wiz period. And when 1 of those guys are outta the rotation it screws up everthing. Gil cannot continue to carry this team on his back each and every night by himself. And the same may go for Hughes if Gil got hurt.
Remember last year? When Gil was hurt. Who carried the team then? (Hughes). Eventhough we got jamison, he is know player that can carry these wizards like Gil or Hughes IMO. And sometime like I stated in my previous post earlier this week. jamison sometime just dissapears in games.
And alot of our other players coming off the bench are weak. They may be all that and a bag of chips to us the wizards fans. But in all reality to the rest of the world they aint nothing.
And Ruffin is one of the toughest guys we have as a big man coming off the bench. But he's no scoring threat or steady FT maker either. He's like a baby Ben Wallace that's why Eddie keeps putting him in they're cause no other big man we have is consistent.
I don't know but atleast they're in the thick of things and not playing catch up to some of the other teams. Were already in the race thank god. Yes! thanks god the first half of the season was good to the wiz cause the 2nd half is gonna be shaky folks believe me. And with the 30 something wins the Wiz already have. It definitely helps...cause they cause lose a few and win a few and still be in the hunt if not already a lock from the 30 wins early.

Yo Red.
All is fine. All is fine.
Yes, EG has done the right thing by not adding or removing any playeres on this team.
We played a great game against on of the top teams and only lost by 2.
Our roles players are developing. The only ones we are really playing against are ourselves. Are we getting better individually and as a team ? Thats all that matters.
My answer is Yes.
So we lost a couple of close games. No biggie.
Yes Gil and Hughes are our stars. And when we get Hughes back they will be the best 1, 2 in the league. You should be happy to know that.
Jamison is a great player, but he will only regularly produce against the top teams if he has 2 other players to take the pressure off. Right now, that Gil and Hughes. He plays fine against average team with just one of them.
So when Hughes comes back, we have the best 1,2,3 in the league.
We have great role players. It just they are developing or have been injured.
Haywood has been showing me some great stuff lately. He is way more aggressive on the boards and he has been making some tough shots inside. 30 Min 5-8, 3-3 Ft, 6rbs, 1 bk, 13pts.
So know you have the best 1,2,3 and Haywood. I like that.
Kwame is just getting used to being out there and posted a double double tonight. He look good the second half. You can see what his big body is going to add. 31min, 10 rbs 10 pts. Missed to many FTs but that just rust. He has a nice FT shot and will be a 70% FT shooter before long.
Roll players. This is a great list.
Etan is hitting his stide after a long injury. Hes blocking shots and grabbing rebounds. Being physical in the paint. 18 Min 5 rbs 1 blk, 2-3 6pts.
Blake finally had his break out game after being injured all year.
He has been showing some flashes with nice passes and a 3 here and there. Tonight he breaks out MIN 34 6-9, 2-4 3s, 5 rbs, 5 asst, 17pts
Dixon is a stud, but hes hurt. Hell be back in a couple weeks.
Just wait till we have him on the bench again.
Jefferies is a nice player. He needs to take it up another step again. He can do a lot of things on the court. He does a little of everything. I wonder how long he is out. I didnt even know he was hurt till tonight.
Hayes is a pure shooter who is fighting a thumb but has had some nice games. He should be great as a back up 2. I hope this leg isnt to bad.
Ruffin has been getting better offensively the last 6 games. He coming along fine.
Then you have AP and Profit.
This is a great team. Its coming along fine. We have only seen parts getting better here, then other parts getting better.
We havent seen the whole thing together yet. They are going to be awesome. Just wait.
Hughes comes back probably next game, thats going to help Jamison and get us over the top until we can get the other players back.
Jefferies should be out long. Neither should Hayes. So in about 2 games we should have everyone but Dixon back.
We have one more tough game against Houston, then we start to roll. Im totally excited. We dont need to add anyone. We have an awesome team for this year. Well add something in Peelers place next year. Plus we add Ramos next session.
Dude, let it ride. Be patient. We have an awesome team.
Remember, its a blessing if we get the 6th seed. Wiz vs the Sixers in the first round

Ill say the same thing I said last time.
Totally new concept.
Less then 24 sec to go. Sac has the ball. Go for the steal and if you dont get it, foul them. Hope they miss one. If not, they go up by 2, we get the ball back into Gils hands with about 18 sec left. They arent going to just foul him for the tie, so he get an op to drives and score ( 3 pts ) or shot a 3. If they do foul him, we get to tie the game up with only a few seconds left for them to win. Overtime.
The way we do it, they run down the clock, score or get fouled, then we are playing down by 2 with only like 3 sec on the clock.
I know most teams wouldnt do this, but when you have Gil and soon Hughes, we are better off trying to win on offense then defense. Foul early and get the ball back for the tie or win.
Id like to see them try this once.

Hands 11, looks sometimes can be decieving. What you see is these guys playing like that against some of the weaker defense of teams but not the better ones.
Yes! some of these role players will get better but how long is the question. Anyhow, I hope your observation is better than mine cause I don't see alot of games that you guys do but just the ones I can catch on my off days.
But alot of times I always catch the games against the better teams with better defenses that always shows the wizards flaws. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Jamison. But it takes for other players to help Jamisons game to be own. But without Hughes or Gil, jamisons production would defintely dwindle.

Having gone to the game...
Kwame looked good rebounding, hustling, and playing defense. Looked like he had no idea what to do with the ball when given to him on offense (not really a new thing).
Gilbert is this team, obviously. He is the only guy that can take someone off the dribble and make something happen - other than Hughes obviously, who is sorely missed - since our big men can't do anything on their own.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw our big men getting stripped left and right and the end. Like 8 points at the end of the game were given up like that.
Do we need Shaq to teach our big men how to shoot free throws??? Etan is like at 46% or something for the season.

I only saw the fourth quarter....this is what I saw...
There were two signifigant non-calls on Kwame towards the end of the game. The first one was when Arenas drove in, toke the shot, and Kwame w/the rebound/put back. The guy from the Kings was all over Brown's arm. The second was his turnover. He got the ball driblled once and looked at first like he driblled off his leg or foot, but on replay you'll see Miller simply swat his arm..

Kwame, Blake and Etan are just getting back in the grove. They havent played against any tough defenses while they have been healthy and in a grove. This is game by game stuff that is changing. You have to remember thier games from when they were healthy last year and then project how long it will take for them to return to full strenght, then mix that together with the improved play of Hughes and Gil.
How long will it take? Well, Kwame just had his first good game and so did Blake. Dixon has already proven what he can do. Ruffin the same. He is adding some offense. Etan is back. Hes a monster down low. Blocking shots, grabbing boards and his offense is 70-75%. He will keep getting better.
I watch every game. If your not sure, go ahead, trust my observations and enjoy being obtimistic about this team. Its not going to take many more games until you see it on the court.
Larry is comig back.
Yes, Jamison needs Gil and Hughes and he is going to have that very shortly. He really needs them against the tough teams, so you are only seeing him when he is struggling. That is going to change very soon.

Etan is far from a monster down low right now, but he has the potential to be better than he has been. He is tough and gives us a presence underneath but a monster? No, Haywood is more of that than Etan at this point. Brendan has some monster dunks and strong rebounds, I am not seeing that at this point with Etan. :2cents:
