there was a time EJ was getting kick out of games b/c the officials were screwing us over and i think the time has come again. even though it has never got to the level of "fair', the calls have been pretty bad since we've arrived in the current slump. some of the calls last night were horrible. anyone else think we are leading the league in the "player gets knocked on the ground or elbowed and the defensive foul is on the player" calls.

Last night was pretty bad. For as much as we were driving to the basket and getting knocked down (not just tick tack fouls), you would have thought arenas would have had 30 free throww attempts.
However, we do seem to be getting the calls at home. It's a step in the right direction, but it's hard to remember after last night.
I am a little concerned come playoff time though. If we get a few games called like that, we are in trouble.

I don't think the officials are against us, I just think there are some bad officials out there.....I believe we rank second only to Miami (Shaq) with free throw attempts in the NBA, so we are getting to the line with frequency.

Rough play on both sides last night. The Knicks got a couple more calls down the stretch but I'd say officiating hasn't been too much of a problem this year (outside the Sacto game).

Funny, I was at the Wiz vs Sac game, and also at the MNF debacle vs Dallas. Why does my presence at games always cause bad officiating??

It's just a thought, but is it possible that Gilbert Arenas makes referees "angry" at the Wiz?
He has gotten better at controlling his temper, but his constant scowl after every whistle would irk me if I were trying to call a game. You never know what he says to those guys either. He could be very disrespectful and being our on-court leader, could be inspiring ill-will from officials.
I doubt there is a conserted effort by refs to go against washington, but these guys are human. They ARE influenced by whiners and malcontents.

Gil looks like he is being cool about it to me.

I know there continues to be a lot of speculation about the refs not giving us calls or being against us....I really don't see this. Of course, there are going to be games like the other night when Gil took 35 shots and did not go to the line once! Overall though, we go to the line the most in the NBA except for Miami and they have Shaq, who everybody likes to send to the line. So, I don't feel that we are being picked on overall....a game here and there yes.

Some games it appears as though they are against us, but i've also seen some games where it appears that we are getting the calls

I think a good thing to do one game is the watch it from the other side. Be real honest and see if you think we are getting away with stuff.
Ive tried it a few times. I dont know. We get away with one here and there. I mean Etan almost took that fellas head off the other night with his elbow and it was a no call but then you get things like Haywood grabbing that loose ball. He shielded with his body, he got there first and they call him for the foul. Phil and Buch said, thats exactly what your supposed to do. They seem baffled also.
Then that no call on Gil to end the game the other night. He got clobbered.
It seem to come in waves. It was really bad to start the season, then it got better, and now it seems really bad again.
I mean Gil gets a ton a calls when he drives. Well usually, but your right about the other game. 35 shots. A lot of them drives in traffic. Phil and Buch were even been commenting on it during the games, and they try to keep a low profile about complaining about these things.
Even Mr cool EJ got a "T" its been so bad.
Its been bad for Ruffin all year. Thats a constant. He doesnt foul people near as much as he gets called for it. I see some pretty clean block by Etan, Ruffin and Haywood and they get called for the foul. Im not just looking up top, they are making clean plays down low also.
But, it cant just be us. That would make no sence. Why would they single out the Wiz ? Why would our home court refs not lean tword us the way it seem to happen on others home courts ? Like Detriot. You know your not getting a far game there. Maybe its partly to do with the fans. Like in a LA game. There were a ton a LA fans making noise. I dont know. Its confusing. Our fans are pretty good most nights.
I guess it could go back to, who are the stars. Its a players league. We are making a name for ourselves but havent done it enough yet. Maybe refs think Gil is to cocky because he takes off his shirt and stuff. I dont think he trying to be overly cocky, he just having fun with the fans. It not like when Rodman would take off his shirt while getting kicked out of a game.
Im not so sure many refs love Kwame. I guess they are people and fans also.
I do think EJ has to keep up the bittttching though. A few more timely "T"s may do well. Hey, head coaches have been doing this for years. Big Phil will get yanked here and there. They wouldnt do this if it didnt work.
Tossing a coach because he cant take your bad calls has got to be somewhat embarrishing. I dont think refs want to do it. It just draws attention to the fact that they are blowing it and makes fans hate them more.

Perhaps the level of officiating just sucks right now and we are looking for a more logical reason why the calls can be so bad. I guess they are just like players in that some are really good refs and some suck. I might start jotting down some of the refs names when we have a real bad game with calls to see if that same crew keeps popping up again and again...
