After the final horn sounded, and after Indiana's final horn beating New Jersey sounded, anyone else shed a tear after we finally clinched a playoff birth?

After all the years of Rod Stricklands, Juwan Howards, Mitch Richmonds, Gar Heards, Leonard Hamiltons, hell even Michael Jordan couldn't do it.

But FINALLY, we've got ourselves a playoff basketball team in the Nations Capital.

Call me a girl but I couldn't help but shed a small tear.

I remember MJ saying after that series that the Bullets were the big up and coming team. The Bullets got swept but I think I remember those games being really really close.

Yep, even the first two in Chicago were pretty close.

We had it all. Great trio of players in Strickland, Howard, and Webber. Somewhat similar to what we have now, expect then it was PG-SF-PF and now it's PG-SG-SF. We also had a pretty good bench and set of role players.

But....well like they say **** happens.

MJ's quote after game 2 where we pushed the Bulls to the brink but he had 55 points and led the Bulls to a win was "they are the team of the future"

I saw nothing but bright things after that 1997 series with the Bulls. Pushed them hard, played tough, but learned that it takes a lot more to win.

Who knew 1998 would be so disastrous leading to Webber being shipped out? After 1997 I was expecting a title very soon

MJ had some weird thing that drew him to the Bullets/Wizards.. first to call them the team of the future, then to actually join as a front office man, and then to actually play on the freakin team.

Team of the future. Unless the future is now.
