View Full Version : Miami or Detroit?

I know this sounds a bit premature but IF we can make it to the 2nd Round, who would you rather play?
Call me crazy but I'd much rather play the HEAT. They're struggling right now, with and without Shaq. I know they swept us, but that was early in the season when we weren't at our peak. IMO we can give them a much harder time if we meet in the playoffs.
Detroit would probably sweep us again, because their depth is unmatched and their defense will shut down our offense.

Heat.
Not because they are struggling, but we really do not match up well with Detroit. Detroit has excellent perimeter defenders along with stellar inside defensive play.
Miami has Shaq and Wade. They aren't that great of a defensive team. Shaq makes them. You can put Wade on Hughes or Arenas, but that still leaves Jones and Jones on Jamison and Hughes. I'll take that match up anytime. I think we would be swept by Detroit or win 1 game at most, but against Miami I think we could make them sweat a little more.

This is a pick your posion situation, no doubt. But I'm going against the grain and will pick the Pistons here.
Yeah Miami is struggling a little bit right now, but they are also coasting into the playoffs. Once the games start to count again you know Shaq is going to regulate and that the whole team is going to turn it up a notch or two. And Wade has OWNED us this year.
2 other reasons I'll take my chances with Detroit over Miami:
1) The Joneses:
No, seriously. We all know how pathetic our perimeter D is. How many times this season have we been burned by the open 3? Eddie Jones and Damon Jones are bombers that have burned us before and can burn us again. Detroit can't hurt us with the long ball like Miami can. Billups is the only guy on Detroit that can consistently sitck the 3.
2) The Refs:
Look, we all know are going to get the shaft when it comes to getting calls. But I think that we wouldn't get screwed AS BAD facing Detroit as we would if we faced Shaq and Wade.
Now I know what some of you are thinking, "Detroit are the freakin' World Champs, how will they not get all the calls?". While this could be true, also consider that the rule changes that Stern and the NBA put in place this season were to work directly against Detroit. And when it comes to the NBA and refs, superstars rule. Any team facing Shaq and Wade in the playoffs this year will have a HUGE uphill battle to overcome all the bogus calls.
Either way, we would have to play absolutely perfect ball (well, perfect Wizards ball anyway, ie: score, score, and score some more) to have a real chance against either team. But I would rather take that shot against Detroit then against Miami.

We'll get spanked by either, quite frankly. But I think a series with the Heat would be more fun to watch.
