And finally, during the Wizards/Cavs game on ESPN. He finally got a chance to witness the Wiz shoot lights out in person and started to ride Gilbert Jock strap. Yes! and I loved it to. Becasue Walton would've loved to ride Lebrons james jock strap that nite, and see the Cavs come away with a victory. But I really loved when dixon made that huge 3 pointer toward the end of the game when the cavs were making a last quarter run. And Dixon basically put the nail in the coffin IMO.
But the best thing that I liked, and witnessed was the teams desire and fire. And during my last post before the wiz played the Bulls and were to follow up by playing the Cavs. I posted those 2 games would definitely tell the tale of if the Wiz were seriously ready for the playoffs. And frankly, I liked what I saw. And can honestly say I think they passed the test and are ready to play.
See, the Cavs really thought they could come into MCI and beat the wiz and so did the Bulls. But the diffrence I saw was the look on Dixon's face when he made that back breaking 3 pointer from down town. Or, when Gilbert shot that 3 pointer from the valley that had Bill Walton's mouth wide open saying "Wow" Gilberts gonna be an all-star for years to come (Puke). Basically, the wiz wanted to make a statement in those games and they did. And Bill Walton and the rest of the world just witnessed what we knew all the time, ever since last year IMO. Especially when considering Gil, hughes and even Dixon IMO. These guys can shoot the rock. Yea! juan can be spotty at times but when he's on he can really stroke it.
But the look I loved was the dixon look after hemade that bone crsuhing back breaking 3 pointer, again. This was toward the end of the game. He looked at Lebron and broke the mug down on Lebron. Basically saying, for those of you who really don't know what breaking the mug down or gritting on a person means. It simply stated, "Now take that back to Cleveland with you lebron" you chump. Well, maybe not in those exact harsh words. But something similar:D . You know, the real B-more stir or the hood wink stir for those of you that don't really know or care to know.
But it's guys like juan that we really need more of on the team. Especially in the teams bigger players. They need a little more street ball savy that comes with some territories and street hoods where real ballers come from and are raised to play hard-core. Not hard core in being a dirty player. But hard-core in the terms of brringing their all every game and not being afraid to sacrifice thier body if need so. We already have that in Gil and huges, so let's add Juan to that list. Maybe the refuse to lose attitude that we have in the big 3 and adding Juan into the mix will make this team a little more tougher come playoffs.
Anyhow, another thing I witnessed that gave me the feeling that these young guys are ready and hungry to win. And even though sometines it didn't feel that way during the season. Gilbert is one of the more true passionate players on the team day-in and day-out. And I saw Gil pull a stunt that let me know these guys will not be just pushed around and bullied come playoffs (I hope)..
Okay, during one play against the Cavs. A penalty was called that stopped the action totally. And I forget what player from the wiz it was. But anyhow, the action had stopped after the penalty had been called, and the ball was still on it's way down after coming off the rim. Big Tracto trailer slapped the ball rather grabbed the ball and attended to grip the ball firmly or something. But really, tractor slapped and grabbed the ball as to send a jesture to the wizards team that he's gonna be doing that anytime a wizard player tries to come in the paint or take it to the hole, or something. But after tractor did that, Gilbert smacked the ball outta his hands and aimed toward the basket to make the shot. And this was once the play had stopped completely. So, what Gilbert was saying after Tractor had made his jesture was that you big fat bum. If you'll gonna do that. Then, this is what Im gonna do type of jesture. And slapped the ball grabbed it and attempted to make a shot. Well, yea! it was pretty minor but in the heat of NBA games or any type of sport. The real passionate players do those type of things doing the heat of competition. And just those 2 jestures by Gil and juan assured me that the wizards. And that means everyone, will be ready to play come playoff time.
Sure, there were other body jestures like Jeffries slam during the bulls game. And yes! that's the type of slashing I'm speaking of when I say we need a real slasher that will slash to the hole just like what Jeffries did without thinking twice about getting fouled or hurt. We need guys who sometimes have no fear of putting it down making a statement. And sometimes, trying it on any one under the basket defending. It sets tones and let's the other team know that they mean business. We need this kind of player and attitude.
So, depending on the playoffs. I think I may have a change of heart about haywood. I think he could really help the Wiz's cause in the years to come if he continues to grow, get stronger and work on his agility.; The same goes with Ethan and maybe even Kwame if the guys keep feeding him and building up his confidence. It may be a gamble, but Kwame can be a 6 man type of guy and then continue to get better. He's still young and just needs more playing time in building up his confidence and being in the heat of battle and performing well. It's hard as hell to tell. But I really think so if team can continue to feed the big guys confidence.
So, alot of these players I say keep. And maybe bring in another big man to see what we can get from him and outta him. Like another true defending, rebounding big man that can occassionally score in the paint.
But all-in-all, I think the Wiz are gonna be okay for some years to come. And maybe pulling an upset come playoff time.
